Evelyn Ashby Young, 101, passed away March 21, 2024 in Farmville, Virginia. She was born August 25, 1922 in Front Royal, Virginia to Tacie (Beaty) and Vernon Ashby. She was raised with her siblings Page, Sydney and Shirley in Front Royal where she attended and graduated from high school. She married Alfred L. Young in Baltimore, Maryland, and they left for Portsmouth, Virginia while Alfred served in the U.S. Coast Guard. They had two children, Carlton and Linda while there, and later moved to Calvert County, MD where they had three children, Janet, Brian, and Kimberly. She lived in Calvert County the majority of her adult life, and became a Certified Nursing Assistant in June of 1983. She worked at the Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick for twenty years, and for another twenty years in private sitting for families in Calvert County until she retired at the age of 70.

She and her husband Alfred loved Calvert County where they worked, raised their children, and attended Huntingtown United Methodist Church. She had fond memories of family gatherings and her many friends.

Evelyn is survived by three children, Janet Enlow of South Carolina, and Brian Young and Kimberly Long, both of Virginia. She is also survived by her sister Shirley of Yulee, Florida, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, children Linda Hayman and Carlton Young, and siblings Page and Sydney Ashby.

In lieu of flowers, Evelyn’s family requests that donations in her memory be made to Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department.
