Edith Kelley Humphreys
August 7, 1927 – November 16, 2019
Edith Gertrude (Kelley) Humphreys, 92, of Saint Leonard, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2019. She was born August 7, 1927 in Cambridge, MD, and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mildred Kelley. She graduated from Wesley Junior College in Dover Delaware where she was a member of the college choir and vocal ensemble.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, H. Vivian Humphreys and sister, Janet K. Lawrence. After college Edith lived and worked in Baltimore City until she married Vivian at which time she moved to her permanent home in Saint Leonard, MD. She was a member, former organist and Sunday school teacher of Waters Memorial United Methodist Church. Edith was a local leader for the Mutual Girls 4-H Club and retired as the Postmaster of Saint Leonard, MD. Edith enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing, having made well over 100 quilts.
Edith loved her family immensely and was proud of all of their talents and accomplishments. She will be most remembered for her unconditional love and support of her family, her many acts of kindness, her words of advice and her faith.
Edith is survived by her daughters, Joan G. Humphreys of Saint Leonard, MD, Ann S. Humphreys of Westminster, MD, and the children of her late husband, Brenda H. Burns and Harold V. Humphreys both of Saint Leonard, MD, 5 grandchildren, Robert Burns, Susan Blackwell, Mark Burns, Austin Crum and Tess Butner, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of the staff of the Burnett Calvert Hospice House who provided excellent care for her during her final days.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at Waters Memorial United Methodist Church, 5400 Mackall Rd., St. Leonard, MD 20685.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Waters Memorial United Methodist Church, Calvert Hospice or the Cancer Society.

Mrs. Humphreys was a friend to all and a good neighbor. I remember her family were one of the first families we met when my family moved to Cape Leonard near the end of Mackall Road in 1961. Blessings and peace to the family at this time.
