Dorothy Trott “Dot” Ward
August 6, 1922 – March 11, 2021

On March 11, 2021, Dorothy Trott Ward, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away at the age of 98. Dot was born and raised in Huntingtown, MD. She graduated valedictorian of her high school class and went on to graduate from Strayer Business School. She worked for the Department of Agriculture for several years before returning to Calvert County. She married Ewell B. Ward in 1942. While he was serving in the Army Air Force, she began working as the office manager for Dr. Page Jett in Prince Frederick. She worked for Dr. Jett for 35 years and retired in 1981.
Dot was a life long member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Huntingtown. After less than a year of piano lessons, she started playing the piano and then organ for the church when she was 16 and continued to play for more than 40 years. She was involved with all aspects of church life. She served as financial secretary for many years. She was very involved with the United Methodist Women’s group and later the church quilting group where she made hundreds of quilts that were donated to the Linus Project and to the local infusion center.
Dot loved to sew and bake and her grandchildren particularly remember her Easter bunny cakes! Dot loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest! She particularly loved spending time at her daughter’s vacation home in Bethany Beach. She had a wicked sense of humor and took great joy in her family and friends.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Trott, and her husband of 52 years, Ewell. She is survived by her daughters Joan Wadman (Rob), Debra Goldberg (Dan) and Karen Ward, her sister Betty Loughead, grandchildren Sarah (Chris), Rachel (Perry), Rebecca (Jake) and Courtney, and great-granddaughter Eleanor (Ellie) Dorothy Learn (born March 9, 2021). The Circle of Life!
Due to Covid-19 there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Huntingtown, MD.

Miss Dot, you where quite a lady and I am proud to have called you my friend. I had always known you but you became a special part of my life in 2002. I started cleaning your house. We would laugh about silly things. Sometimes if I was in the area I would stop in to see if you needed anything. We would go to lunch or store or just sit and talk. You where there for me when I lost my mother. When she would do something to her TV and get it out of whack she would call my grandson who was just around the corner and he would get the TV back on track. You where very special person in my life. I want to thank your family for sharing you. She loved all of you and was so proud of the grand-girls. All remember she was loved by many. I know she loved the Valentine’s candy that I got her each year. Debbie would say she ate all the candy by herself. Rest in peace as you are now with the Good lord that you loved so much. God Bless the family.
Miss Dot was such a sweet, sweet lady. When she and Miss Alma retired from playing the organ at Emmanuel UMC, they passed the torch to me, so I took over the organist duties at Emmanuel. Since I was already playing the organ at Huntingtown United Methodist Church, I was a busy girl on Sunday mornings, rushing from one service to another with Rev. Hoffman. She used to call me “her favorite organist,” and I was humbled by her nickname for me. She always greeted me with a hug and kind words, and I’ll miss that.
Miss Dot would be pleased to know that I am still the organist at Huntingtown UMC.
May you rest in peace with Mr. Ewell, and keep playing those sweet notes in Heaven, dear lady.
I am just reading that Miss Dorothy has passed away. What a wonderful woman always full of enthusiasm and joy! I loved our little talks over the years. May her family find peace in knowing she is resting with a smile in her Savior’s arms. I shall remember her with sweetness!

My deepest sympathies to Miss Dot’s family. She was a sweet lady with a kind heart and a beautiful smile for everyone she met. Heaven has gained another angel to watch over us. May God grant her eternal rest.
