Donald Raymond King Sr. was born on December 13, 1955, in Prince Frederick, Maryland. Known to most as Don, he joined the Navy early in life but had to step away to care for his father following his mother’s passing. He later joined the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department in Corrections, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring on disability.

Don was known for his brutal honesty, never hesitating to speak his mind and always living life on his own terms. Those who knew him best understood that his words, however blunt, came from a genuine desire to help those around him. He became an avid motorcyclist and was seldom seen without his motorcycle. The only thing he loved more than riding was his artwork. What began with scroll saw pieces eventually evolved into an impressive talent for creating works of art using everything from scroll saws and wood burners to dremels and chainsaws.

One of his proudest moments was becoming a grandfather. As PapPap, he loved nothing more than spoiling his granddaughter. He dedicated many years to helping care for her, teaching her a few life lessons along the way.

When that chapter of his life came to a close, Don returned to his home in Westernport, where he was a valued member of the community. He was always willing to lend a hand to friends, neighbors, and anyone else who needed one. He joined a local church and became a regular speaker, openly sharing stories of his younger years and his struggles with drugs and alcohol. Through his honesty and experiences, he hoped to help others find a better path. Don left a mark on everyone he met, one that is sure to stay with them for a lifetime.

Don is survived by his son Donald Raymond King, Jr. and his wife Kari, granddaughter Amber King, sister Barbara Stephens, brothers George and Bryan King and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry King.

In lieu of flowers donations in Don’s name can be made to Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.
