Donald Calvin “Don” Jones

Donald Calvin “Don” Jones, 85, of Owings passed away April 22, 2020 at his home. He was born February 3, 1935 in Hyattsville to Thomas C. and Julia June (Zabinski) Jones. Don joined the United States Navy in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1957, having served as a Radarman 2nd Class aboard the USS Cowell during the Korean War. He was very proud of his time in the Navy and was honored to have served his country. Don was a member of the American Legion and Elks Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, playing badminton, BINGO, and being outdoors, gardening and cutting grass.

Don is survived by his significant other Janice Kent, stepdaughter Patricia Maynard, stepson Dennis Moon, grandchildren Michael, Glenn, Brian, and Wesley Maynard and Dennise and Michael Moon, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, sister-in-law Becky Jones and numerous nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by Janice’s children whom he shared a special bond with; Chris Kent (Erin), Corie Duffy (Weston), Casie Kent (Wayne Simms), and Caitlyn Kent (Josh Donnelly), 9 grandchildren and one on the way.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Helen Jones, grandson Michael Maynard, sister Betty Agpaoa, and brother Robert Jones.

All services will be private. A memorial service and celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.
