Dolores Theresa Dowling
October 6, 1928 – June 11, 2024
Dolores Theresa (Cage) Dowling, 95, died peacefully at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Crofton, Maryland. She was born October 6, 1928, in Brunswick, Maryland, to Frances Virginia and Robert A. Cage.
Dolores was raised in Washington, D.C., and graduated from McKinley Tech. She married the love of her life, Joseph E. Dowling, in 1951, who preceded her in death in 2010. Dolores and Joe lived in Adelphi, Maryland, for 50 years, where they raised their family.
Dolores is the beloved mother to Joseph (Susan), Debbie (Dave), Gemma (Robin), and Robert (Carina). She was Nanny to Patrick (Rebecca), Michael (Danielle), Caitlin (Brian), Joey (Alyssa), Christine (Jay), and Erin. Great-grandmother to Molly, Maggie, Quinn, Charlotte, Keira, Jack, Charlie, Luke, Cassidy and Taylor, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Dolores’ love for her family is unparalleled, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and unity. She’s survived by her brother, Robert G. Cage, and preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria Sterling and Rosemary Cage.
For more than half a century, Dolores was a vibrant part of St. Camillus Parish in Silver Spring, MD. She played a significant role in the school’s library, was a dedicated member of the Camilla Homemakers, and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
During her 16 years living at Riderwood Retirement Community, she enjoyed being a member of the Night Owls and volunteering at the Treasure Chest.
She enjoyed her visits to the beach and antiquing with her friends, but her greatest love was her family.
To honor and remember Dolores’ life, we invite relatives and friends to gather at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, Maryland, on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Sending our thoughts and prayers to the family during this very difficult time. Delores was one of the kindest, most gentle souls we’ve ever encountered in our lives. She is certainly in heaven with our Lord, seated with her husband, sisters, among family and friends. God has blessed us for having her in our lives…
When i think of dolores i think of 2 times – the first was when as a child rich and I went to maryland to stay with them for I have no idea how long – it seemed like a month – but she and the rest of her family made us feel so loved and at peace – i personally had never experienced being in a home like that – without constant tension going on – she and joe the way they intereacted with each other and their children was a joy to be part of – it may have been only a short while and it may have been only only once i was able to share moments with them but it was an unforgettable moment – the love care compassion generousity of dolores and joe was something i know was poured daily into her children – and her grandchildren and any other family members she interacted with-
The second moment was many years later -her sister , my mom wanted to go visit her family so we decided mom and I to make a road trip up there – i learned so much bout mom rosie dolores and bob as we drove up there -it was so nice when we got there to spend time with dolores as her and mom caught up – i had always thought dolores was the oldest just cause i thought she acted more like a big sister than i could picture my mom being – i was so surprised to find out dolores was a middle child – her mannerisms and the way she carried herself to me were what I would expect the oldest to be like – she will be so missed in person but I know so many that had the chance to know her will treasure her memories and will never forget her – the sisters are together again – what a joyful reunion that must be
What a wonderful life Dolores lived! Because Joe was my godfather and my dad’s best friend, I saw a lot of Joe and Delores at our home and various gatherings around the DC area. I lost touch with family when both Joe and Mo passed away within months of each other in 2010.
My sincerest condolences to her loving and large family. I believe my family is with you in spirit now. Sending much love and much joy to you all as you celebrate a life well lived.
Love,
Martha Zangeo
