Deloris "Doddy" Root

Deloris “Doddy” Root, 91, of Lusby, MD, passed away on August 16, 2026 at Solomons Nursing Center.

Born October 24, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wilford Keller and Agnes (Mitchell) Keller. Doddy was raised in Pleasant Creek, WV and attended Grafton High School. She married her husband, Porter C. Root on September 20, 1956. Doddy and Porter moved to Anne Arundel County in the late 1950’s.  She moved to Chesapeake Beach in Calvert County in 1995.  Doddy was primarily a homemaker, but she was employed as a desk clerk at the Bragg Motel in Upper Marlboro, MD. She enjoyed cooking and going to the senior center in North Beach.

Doddy is survived by her children, Quintin Root (Deborah) of St. Leonard, MD and Vickie May (Paul) of Lusby, MD; grandchildren, Paul May, Jr. (Alissa) and Derrick May (Lindsay); two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Shairon Laulis, Linda McMullen and Michael Keller all of Grafton, WV.  She was preceded in death by her husband Porter C. Root on May 31, 1990 and her granddaughter, Sara Root.

Family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service conducted by Chaplain Bill Miller following at 12:00 p.m. at Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at a date to be determined.
