David James Blake, Sr.

  • August 23, 1962 - October 16, 2026

David James “SGT” Blake, Sr., 64, of Lusby, MD and formerly of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026, at CalvertHealth Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born August 23, 1962, in Endicott, NY, he was the son of the late Larry Blake and Dawn (Chamberlin) Blake.

David graduated from Chenango Forks High School, Binghamton, NY.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1980 until 1988. During his enlistment, David served in El Paso, TX and Kaiserslautern, Germany. He married his wife, Stephanie M. Blake, in Las Cruces, NM on June 12, 1985. David worked as a Corrections Officer for the State of Maryland Department of Corrections, retiring in 2003 after sixteen years of dedicated service.

Outside of work, David was an avid outdoorsman and handyman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto repair, working with computers, and attending a variety of conventions. In his later years, he became quite an animal enthusiast, spending much of his time at home with his wife and their cats.

As someone who could be depended on, there was never a problem that he wouldn’t help with. Even when he couldn’t physically help, he was always there with advice and guidance. The old man had a big heart with the best of intentions. He was always more concerned with the health and happiness of others, and until his passing, assisted with the care of his mother and father-in-law.

He may not have been perfect, but he was loved regardless of his flaws.

David is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie M. Blake; his children and their spouses, Larry and Jenny Amos of Chevy Chase, MD, David and Melissa Blake of Lusby, MD, and Krysti and Linus Araque of Camas, WA; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings, J. Blake and Kelly Blake of Binghamton, NY.

Per David’s final wishes, no service will be held.
