David Wilson Barrett
February 15, 1956 – April 4, 2023
David “Buckshot” Wilson Barrett, 67, of St. Leonard, Maryland passed away peacefully at home on April 4th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. David fought a brief but courageous battle of esophageal cancer.
David was born to David Armstrong Barrett and Elizabeth (Luber) Barnes-Barrett on February 15th, 1956. David is survived by his wife, Margie (Sharretts) Barrett, his children, David “Bubba” and Erica (fiancé Paul Reamy), his granddaughters, Laycyn Barrett and Layla Gibson, and great granddaughter, Caaliyah Jaide. He is also survived by his sisters, Gloria Barnes Yates, Carolyn Barnes Parker and Linda Barnes Lanzisera. David is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Elizabeth, his brothers, William (Billy) Barnes, Douglas (Dougie) Barnes, Solomons (Perry) Barnes, Timothy (Timmy) Barnes, and sister Sandra (Barnes) Button.
David was born and raised on the water in Broomes Island, Maryland. From a young age David’s father instilled a love of the water in him. David was an avid fisherman, and he was often seen on the Patuxent River catching crabs for family gatherings. Another favorite thing of David’s was cooking for everyone. A great meal was always guaranteed when you visited the Barrett’s house.
David spent most of his career rising through the building industry. He began at a very young age under the teaching of someone he considered like a dad to him, Douglas Wood. In his neighborhood David was known for his ability to help problem solve. Whether it be a house repair, snow plowing, yard maintenance, or advice David was called upon. David’s true love was his family. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 49 years. No greater joy was brought to him than to help his children in any way he could. His granddaughters and great granddaughter gave him so much happiness and joy.

My heart is aching for the Barrett family, David was one of the most amazing men, I’ve had the pleasure of having in my life. Margie, my sweet friend…You and your family are in my prayers. I am sending love, hugs and healing prayers during this difficult time.
To Margie, Erica, Bubba, and all of Dave’s family and friends I extend my deepest condolences and I send prayers of comfort and love to all. Although I had only known Dave, Margie, and Erica a short time while working at Sneade’s, they are definitely an amazing family and Dave was one of my favorite people to assist when he came to the lumber counter.
All my love
