Curtiss Cebert Barrett, 88, of Solomons, Maryland, passed away on September 3, 2026. Curt was born November 12, 1937 to Lena Pearl (Jividen) Barrett and Cebert Barrett in Charleston, West Virginia. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University and his Master’s Degree from Catholic University of America, both in aerospace engineering.
Curt met and married his wife Charlene at WVU and they began their life together. They had two daughters: Deborah Barrett Wilkinson (Ron) and Robin Barrett Jordan (John); six grandchildren: Matthew Wilkinson (Crystal), Philip Wilkinson (Amy), Erin Kassouf (Andrew), Heather Robinson (Drew), Kyle Dearstine, and Ryan Dearstine; and nine great grandchildren: Elisha (12), Christian (11), Madison (10); Rebekah (9); Blake (8), Nathaniel (7); Madelynn (7); Noelle (5), and Gabriel (3).
Curt had a long and distinguished career with the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) beginning his career in 1962 as a mission analyst and propulsion specialist. In 1968 he became a systems engineer, in 1979 he became a software manager, and in 1982 he became head of the Flight Software Section. In 1973 and 1977 Curt received the Goddard Space Flight Center Outstanding Performance Award.
