Christopher Alan King
April 10, 1949 – October 26, 2023
Christopher Alan King, 74, of Mahopac, NY, passed away from complications after open heart surgery at Washington Hospital in D.C.
It was a beautiful, sunny day that ushered him to his next journey.
Chris was born April 10, 1949, in Prince Frederick, MD to Boyd and Margaret King, and was the youngest of the five King children. He grew up in Prince Frederick and always spoke fondly of his life in Calvert County. He spoke often of his favorite dog “Major” and of course “Pedro the Donkey” (sure we have all heard that story).
Chris graduated from Calvert Senior High School in 1968 and soon thereafter joined the U.S. Marines. Trained at Paris Island, S.C., was a Corporal and served 2 years in Viet Nam (1968-1970).
He is a member of The American Legion and a proud Veteran who served his country.
Upon returning back home, he attended Prince Georges Community College and then University of Maryland in College Park. Chris worked at various jobs in his lifetime, including his father’s Radio Shack in Prince Frederick, UPS, and for many years with FedEx, retiring in 2011.
Chris is survived by his three children, from his marriage with Jane,
Bryan King, Blake and his wife Danielle King and Laura King Pietsch as well as son-in-law Christopher Pietsch and his three beautiful grandchildren: Hartley Pietsch, Paxton Pietsch and Isla Pietsch, who lovingly call him Pop Pop. He always looked forward to his weekly FaceTime calls with the Pietsch family to see their young faces and hear of their life and adventures in Arizona; by his brothers Fred and wife Shirley King, Mike and wife Wanda King, as well as his sister, Candy King and husband Chuck Willett. He was predeceased by his sister Margit King Miller of Lusby, MD.
He is also survived by his partner Clementine Della Donna of New York where they both lived in the Hudson River Valley area.
Chris will be remembered for many things but most of all his heart, his love, sensitivity and his loyalty that he shared with family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great smile, loved to laugh and of course he loved to dance even if just around the house. He enjoyed the outdoors, walking, hiking, going to the gym and just staying active. Working in his garden was a passion of his. He took great pride in it and loved the positive comments from neighbors and friends of the wonderful job he did turning a tired old piece of property into stunning gardens. He loved showing it off to anyone who would listen.
And speaking of listening, Chris loved to talk, to anyone. He made friends where ever he went. He was an avid reader and a lifetime self-learner. He loved exploring interesting topics to further his knowledge.
As he said on his resume many years ago for his goals:
“To be successful and happy at whatever I do”. That was Chris King.
We will always love and miss you until we meet again.
Family and Friends are welcome to join us, Friday, December 1st, 11:00am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 25 Church Street NW, Prince Frederick, MD. followed by a Celebration of Life in the Church Hall at 12pm. We would welcome any fond stories you would like to share that you may have of Chris. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Chris and his loved ones.
Condolences

Oh Christopher…I will miss laughing with you and Clemy in the kitchen over crazy stories and Pedro!
You should be deemed, “King of the Garden” as you created a green masterpiece that will always be there to remind us of your passion and talent! May you be happy and laughing and appointed God’s gardener!
Prayers to Chris’s family and friends. He will be so missed. He was such a sweet man. I met him at Prince George’s Community College in 1972. I’m so grateful he introduced me to Bach’s piano concertos. I love classical music. I dated him for about 5 months in 1972.
