Heartfelt condolences to the family. I knew her from the Detention Center family. She is missed. So much love and her light would shine so bright for all those souls she would come across. I have the crochet blanket of chakra colors to treasure that she made. Carrie’s soul is a legacy of light that will forever beam bright on this planet.
My heartfelt condolences go out Carrie’s family. She will truly be missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love her. I often called her my Carrie Bear. She enjoyed life, and her children and grandchildren were the center of her universe. Carrie would make you laugh with her stories or with her antics and she was just a joy to be around. This world has truly lost one of its Angels. Rest in Peace my friend your work here is finished.
My Heart felt condolences to the family. Though I never had the chance to meet Carrie in person I feel a closeness to her through a couple of brief phone conversations, photos and videos that Dan shared with me. Dan, please share with your sisters, the knowledge I handed you last we met. All of you have the strength of the Great Bull Buffalo to deal with your tremendous loss. The bone of the Bird, know Carrie can soar with the Eagle. May all of you find some peace and comfort from your personal Great Spirit.

Thank you Tim so much for taking the time to share your reflections. Your support to our brother brought a great deal of comfort during a very difficult period. Thank you for thoughtfully sending the jam. Mom enjoyed it at a time when her appetite was fading. God bless you Tim and we’ll continue to keep you in our prayers.
My sincere condolences go out to her family. I knew her for 18 years from the Detention Center. We had many a great conversation. She was a perfectly lovely person who cared so much for everyone around her. There is one thing I know for sure and that is how much she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Carrie will be missed more than words can say.
I was truly saddened to hear that Carrie passed away. Carrie was so full of life and energy. There are no words for the loss of a mother, my deepest condolences to the family. Wishing you all healing and peace during this difficult time. Sending hugs and prayers your way.
Carrie will be greatly missed by many. She was generous, loving, and sharing. She truly lived for her children, grandchildren. and great grandchildren. Duvall CPR reflected Carrie’s desire to help others. She was kind to all. She sincerely wanted her CPR students to be successful. She made the best cupcakes ever while enjoying sharing them to celebrate occasions for her co-workers and others. Rarely did you see Carrie without her crocheting. Her blankets were treasured by many children. Carrie was unforgettable. She loved to laugh, was quick to forgive, and could stretch a dollar further than most. She was optimistic, determined, and undeterred in her fight to survive for 13 years following her diagnosis with metastatic breast cancer. She rarely missed work at the Calvert County Detention Center despite her illness and many treatments. She was a dedicated employee who served on the Employee Recognition Committee. Carrie had a deep and very personal faith in God, with whom she had a personal relationship. While she had strong opinions, she was a listener who would explain the lessons that life had taught her through adversity. Anyone who was Carrie’s friend was blessed, indeed!
My heart goes out to Carrie Duvall’s family. I worked with Carrie for many years at the Detention Center. Carrie was a very STRONG, INTELLIGENT, LOVING, FRIENDLY, and very INDEPENDENT woman. Carrie never wanted anyone to cater to her, but she loved to cater to them. Carrie fought her fight with cancer for many years and never let it slow her down or stop her from doing what she wanted to do. I think this is why the news was so shocking to some of us and we, like you were not ready to let her go. Carrie loved teaching the CPR class for anyone who needed to be certified including my niece. Carrie loved baking treats for everyone here at work, especially me, spending time with her kids, grandchildren and co-workers. Carrie loved being involved in may things like hosting Pampered Chef Parties, Avon Parties, and being your cheerleader for eating healthy and loosing weight. Carrie was such a wonderful person who always thought of others. If she knew you were upset or having a hard time with something, she would be the first one to give you a hug and tell you everything is going to be ok. Carrie loved to sit and talk with you for hours about anything. I loved her positive feedback and personal attention. Carrie was very good at her job the records department and she loved it! If she couldn’t answer your question she always knew who to call to get the answer for you. Carrie use to remind me all the time,” you NEVER know how long your going to be here on this earth, so Stephanie you make the best of it by spending lots of memorable time with those babies of yours, family and friends and live life to the fullest”. Carrie you will TRULY be missed and will always remain in OUR HEARTS. We love you Carrie!! The Hotchkiss Family.
Thanks Barbara. I cherish memories of my mom being a bus driver. I think she broke every rule lol. She would stop at Wendy’s to get kids frosties from Wendy’s on the way home when running the afterschool shift. One time she stopped her bus to go sledding in the snow with her kids. A decision that resulted in her falling flat on her face and hurting her neck. She was such a free spirit (and very silly). Thank you so much!
Thank you so much Stephanie. I appreciate all of the sentiments you shared about my mom. I’m grateful you had a chance to know each other. She is dearly missed. I’m comforted by the outpouring of support by people who care. God bless you!
Thank you Linda. My mom loved her CPR customers. She was such a go-getter. She kept on scheduling CPR classes up until the last minute. Not b/c she needed money but she had such a passion for teaching! Thank you for being such a faithful customer for all of these years.
I am an RN and first met Carrie in 1999 when I took her CPR class. I continued to take her CPR class every 2 yr. to stay certified. Carrie was an incredible teacher– made the class FUN and informative. She would have fresh coffee and have homemade desserts for the CPR participants. The minute one entered her house , you could feel the LOVE of FAMILY as expressed by photos, plaques…….the energy Carrie exuded was one of LOVE and LIGHT and POSITIVITY. We would chat after class about my nursing–( I’m a certified Psychiatric Nurse and Addictions Counselor) and Carrie would share about her growing FAMILY and LIFE. Radiant and Beautiful— I feel blessed to have known Carrie. To her family I am so sorry. LOVE will always keep your mama close to you, in your memories and in your heart.
Thanks Malane! You are correct. The love I have her for and she shared with me, reaches far beyond what we can see. Now that she’s in God’s perfect peace on the other side of glory, that love continues to bring me comfort. Even when the pain of our loss is so heavy. I’m grateful for all of the love my mom shared. Thank you so much for reaching out!
