Brian Patrick Tierney
August 17, 1956 – May 25, 2023
Brian Tierney passed away suddenly at his home on May 25th, just a few months shy of full retirement from his position as a Logistics Program Manager at Naval Air Systems Command. Brian dedicated his professional career to supporting the naval aviation mission and his shipmates worldwide. He joined the Navy in 1975, serving over 21 years ashore and afloat before retiring as a Senior Chief Aviation Maintenance Administrationman in 1996. Brian’s tours of duty included deployments aboard notable naval carriers such as the USS Independence and the USS Kennedy during operation Desert Storm. His military service was followed by another 27 years supporting several navy aviation acquisition commands in their mission to maintain and improve the effectiveness of naval aircraft and our warfighters worldwide.
Born on August 17, 1956, to Jeanette and Harold “Hal” Tierney in Schaller, Iowa, he was an avid golfer and a familiar face at our local golf courses – especially the NAS Patuxent River Golf Course. Brian combined his compassion with his love for golf to help improve the lives of special olympic athletes. He devoted many hours and weekends as a golf and ski coach with St. Mary’s County Special Olympics where he was well loved by his athletes and their families.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of almost 39 years Linda (Yannetti) Tierney; loving daughter Alex Tierney (Michael Fabian); mother Jeannette Tierney; sister Brenda Uhl (Doug); brother Keith, brother Michael; sister Sandi Tierney; sister-in-law Teresa Hartnett (John); brother-in-law Pat Yannetti (Barbara); along with a great many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Hal; his brother Kevin; his sister Linda; and his mother and father in-law Lou and Marie Yannetti.

What words could begin to share the feelings we are experiencing learning of Brian’s passing? It is a thankful moment for the laughs and love shared as our children grew up/attended school together during our stint in Maryland as well as all the adventures shared during and after those years via modern technology … I will always treasure being deemed “hitler” by Brian 🙂 the year Alex and Eric did swim lessons and Eric didn’t want to get in the pool and I was determined he would learn to swim. While now sad we feel blessed that he could walk Alex down the aisle last weekend and be forever a part of one of her most special days life offers. Our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers are with all the family now and forever!
Brian was a wonderful friend and a joy to golf with on our annual DB golf trips. I am so glad I made the trip this year and had the opportunity to play with him. Thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will be missed by all of us.
Linda & family- I was so saddened to learn of Brian’s passing. May your heart be filled with the many memories that you made together, especially the recent wedding of your daughter. I know nothing can ease the grief you are feeling now, but the memories will be cherished.
Brian,
This one is tough for me because you really caught me by surprise. You are a good man and a fantastic shipmate… even though I am a Marine. I always enjoyed spending time with you at work and having and being able to talk to you about basic everyday things and our family’s. You had patience with me and gave me some great advice.
My deepest condolences to your family. You will be missed.
As we used to always say to each other…. Rolling!
We are deeply saddened to hear of Brian’s passing. My son, Andy, and I knew Brian through many years of Special Olympics skiing. His booming voice, laughter and encouragement meant so much to this group. Heartfelt sympathy to your family.
Eric and I are saddened by the news of Brian’s passing. I worked with Brian for many years. We traveled and played golf almost everywhere we traveled and he helped me out of so many difficult situations at work. He was a GREAT person and will most definitely be missed. Heaven received an awesome angel. 😇 prayers 🙏 to the entire family.
My sincerest condolences to family and friends. I worked with Brian since 2012 and was so saddened to learn of his sudden passing. He was a great American and human being and always willing to help anyone in need. His sarcastic wit and “office mayor” persona was legendary in our workplace and anyone who ever worked with Brian Tierney knew who he was! Taken far too soon from family and friends, he will be missed by all.
On behalf of the Ward family, our thoughts and prayers the Tierney family and friends. I had the good fortune to have worked with and around Brian since 2012, and he was always “there” for the Fleet warfighters and coworkers. He will be missed. Godspeed sir.
Linda and Alex,
My condolences to you for the loss of a wonderful husband and father. We worked together for many years, and he always spoke with so much love and pride regarding his family. It was if I knew you both and shared his happiness right along beside him for your goals and accomplishments.
My prayers go out to you during this difficult time.
Dear Linda and Alex,
I am so so saddened to hear the news of Brian passing. My deepest condolences to you and your family. The world has definitely lost a good one. I was just speaking of him recently and how much he loved helping out with the Special Olympic programs. I have so many good memories playing at your house in the ranch club and listening to all his funny stories working with dad over the years. One thing I know without a doubt was his love for “his girls”. You two meant the world to him. Im happy to hear he had a chance to be with Alex on her special day. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
