Betty June Manchak
March 4, 1931 – September 3, 2024
Betty June Manchak, surrounded by her family went into the presence of the Lord on September 3, 2024 in Solomons, MD. The Bible tells us in Revelation 14:13 that blessed are the dead who die in the Lord that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them. Betty who served as a bible study teacher, missionary, and a Pax Pres elected Elder would be the first to say that when God’s ambassadors die in Christ, the Lord raises up others, and that God’s blessing continues as He opens doors for the Gospel around the world.
Betty Manchak’s professional experiences include many different areas in education and in the imprint business and related industries. She was a teacher as well as an administrator with the Montgomery County Public Schools and Prince George’s County Public Schools for over 30 years. She attended the University of Maryland where she obtained a PhD degree. She has traveled extensively around the world and has lived for extended periods in several foreign countries. She assumed pivotal roles with projects in Egypt, Ethiopia, and Viet Nam. She and her family lived in Ethiopia for two years and spent one year in Egypt.
She was a local business owner and was involved in several community and church projects including teaching Sunday School classes at Patuxent Presbyterian Church in California, MD as well as teaching Bible Study classes at the Asbury Solomons Senior Center in Solomons, MD. She enjoyed considerable success as an educator, and after retiring she became interested in creating a business. With ideas in mind, Betty conducted considerable study and travel to determine the viability of setting up an imprint business. Her deliberations formed the basis for establishing a million dollar plus company located in California, MD.
Betty was born in Seminole, OK where she and her brother grew up. In high school and college, she was called Nicki. In 1930, this area was known as the great dust bowl. Betty’s dad went off to military duty in France and her mom served as a war production worker in Oak Ridge, TN. Betty was fortunate enough to have both sets of grandparents and they had close frequent contact. She saw Grandpa Nichols a lot and as the only granddaughter was the apple of his eye. She loved to visit Grandpa Nichols who owned a candy franchise business and guess what, she had the run of the place. The boxes were stacked high, and she was a climber. Grandpa Nichols would say “If you don’t stop pouring the coffee out of the cups, you will turn black”. Coffee has never touched he lips!
The family owned a Tourist Court in Enid, OK. They later moved to Mangum, OK where they owned a 100-acre cotton farm. Her grandparents on her mother’s side were Big Mama from Alabama with whom Betty spent a lot of time with. Big Mama was a dedicated Christian and this rubbed of on Betty. Betty was probably influenced more by her than her own parents. Big Mama was a character right out of a Hollywood script and I think you will agree. She never left home without her trusted 38 pistol in her purse. Big Daddy had a nice job with Southern Railway and as a result the family had free passes for Big Mama, with granddaughter Betty. They traveled by rail every chance they had some free time.
The Manchak family would appreciate your prayers in the days ahead as we honor Betty who served the Lord with her life, loved her family, and was always grateful for God’s people who supported her in the work. As Betty has now completed her labors and is laid to rest, please pray that the testimony she leaves behind will touch many lives and point them to salvation in Jesus Christ.
Betty’s journey of faith on earth has ended. She has been reunited with her mother, father, and brother and has stepped into eternal joy of Heaven in the presence of his Savior. She leaves behind her husband of 71 years, Paul of Solomons, MD; daughters, Diana of St. Leonard, MD, Sherry of Mt. Airy, MD, and Janice Lauterbach of Honolulu, HI; son, Paul Jr. of St. Inigoes, MD; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. God bless you and thank you for your prayers for our family.
