Audrey Mae MacWilliams
January 17, 1922 – December 9, 2020

Audrey Mae Loveless MacWilliams, age 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 9, 2020 at Riderwood Village, Silver Spring, Maryland.
She is survived by two sons, Heber MacWilliams III of Shaker Heights, OH, and Michael Lee MacWilliams, Sr. and wife Gayle of Columbia, MD; five grandchildren, Kara MacWilliams of Rockville, MD; Michael MacWilliams, Jr. (Kathleen) of San Francisco, CA; Lauren Wisniewski (James) of Arlington, VA; Diana Danner (Raymond) of Cleveland Heights, OH; and Paul MacWilliams (Amy) of Falls Church, VA; seven great-grandchildren, Anne Wisniewski, Valerie Wisniewski, William Wisniewski, Morgan Danner, Alexandra MacWilliams, Adela MacWilliams, and Audrey MacWilliams, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born in Owings, MD, on January 17, 1922, Audrey Mae was a daughter of the late Bernard Guy Loveless and Ethel Griffith Loveless. She was preceded in death by her husband Heber MacWilliams, Jr., as well as her three brothers Bernard Loveless, Jr. (Dorothy), Edmund Loveless (Margaret), and Morris Loveless (Jean).
Audrey Mae was devoted to her family, yet found time to serve her community and her church. She was president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the North Beach (MD) Volunteer Fire Department and President of the North Beach PTA. In 1953, the family moved from North Beach to Churchton, MD. She served as Postmaster of Churchton from 1963 to 1984 and was the unofficial “mayor” of the town during those years. She served on the Credit Committee of the NAPUS (now Signature) Federal Credit Union from 1976 to 2014. Being a child of the Depression, she was not inclined to lend money to people with multiple maxed-out credit cards. She served on many local Boards and Commissions. She was known for her forthright “tell it like it is” approach in dealing with issues, large and small. She had little patience for dithering. She felt a deep need to try to right any wrong she encountered. She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in North Beach and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Owensville, MD.
She didn’t have indoor hobbies. She loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed working on her grounds and gardens. After the death of her husband in 1979, she enjoyed traveling the United States and around the world. Audrey Mae was especially supportive of the mission of the South Anne Arundel Lions Club, serving as its President and winning the Lions’ prestigious Melvin Jones award for leadership. From 2000 to 2012 she delivered Meals on Wheels to needy individuals in south Anne Arundel County. After 60 years in Churchton, she moved to Riderwood Village in 2013.
A private service will be held. Because Audrey Mae’s services are private, her family requests that flowers in her memory not be sent. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the organization listed below under Contributions. A private burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD.

Audrey Mae was a beloved neighbor to all of us on Broadwater Point but was especially a good friend to my parents, George and Bette Christman. I would enjoy breakfast with the group at Happy Harbor on Sundays after mass at Our Lady of Sorrows. Be at peace Audrey Mae.

Among the few people I’ve ever known who warmed hearts and shared a certain joy with the just way she was, Aunt Sis. She had eyes that smiled, a face that shined, a manner that calmed. Know for sure she’s doing the same for her new friends and neighbors in Heaven.
Audrey Mae (Aunt Sis), sister of my father, her youngest of three brothers, will always be remembered in my heart as a woman of great generosity and selfless love. In my youth I remember my parents taking their five children to celebrate Christmas every year with their cousins at the MacWilliams home in Deale. In later years I would visit with my own family. Aunt Sis never forgot a name or a face.
I am saddened by her passing but rejoice in her eternal happiness. My aunt left behind a loving family to whom I express my deepest sympathy.
Audrey “Sis” was one of my parents best friends. It was a real plus growing up and knowing your parents friends. She was also loved by those that knew her from the North and Chesapeake Beach communities. I consider myself so lucky to have had the pleasure of knowing her and her sons. My sympathy to Butch and Mike and all the MacWilliams extended families. Grace Mary Brady
Dear Butch and Mike and all of “My Sis’s” family. You may not remember me but I sure remember you all. Some, most,of my best memories are with you,at your house in the beach or in Broadwater.I have seen Sis a lot over the years and kept up with her comings and goings thru Betty and Jay.But since I retired I hardly hear anything about anyone…I can only say that your Mom was as dear to me anyone on the planet.I will think of her forever fondly and with a smile on my face.

Mrs. MacWilliams was quite a lady and I admired her strength and tenacity. She leaves behind a family that she was devoted to and they loved her in return. Rest in peace, Mrs. Mac.
