Arlean Iris Mooradian
March 6, 1925 – November 23, 2021
Arlean Iris Taylor Mooradian, of Huntingtown, MD passed on to her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. She was 96 years old.

Arlean is also survived by two sons, Charles of El Salvador and Michael of Huntingtown, 4 daughters, Robin (David) Gale of New Bern, NC; Priscilla (Steven) Johnson of Huntingtown; Elizabeth McCoy of Huntingtown and Maureen (Paul) Pieringer of Franklin, NC. Arlean is also survived by ten grandchildren, Ian (Emma) McCoy of Rutherford, NJ; Hailey McCoy of Edgewater, MD; Stephanie Johnson of Brooklyn NY; Samantha Johnson of College Park MD; Celia (Kelly) Mooradian of Chicago, IL; Layla Mooradian of Alexandria, VA; Emily Pieringer of Reisterstown, MD; Peter Pieringer of La Mirada, CA; Benjamin Mooradian of North Beach, MD; Geneva Mooradian of Prince Frederick, MD. Arlean is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Eli and Linnux Mooradian of North Beach, MD as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Arlean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck.
Arlean lived a full life. She was a scholar athlete during her high school years, excelling in basketball, tennis, snow skiing and ice skating while graduating 5th in her class of 105 students. Arlean received a scholarship to the University of New Hampshire where she graduated in 1946 with a BS in Occupational Therapy. Arlean began her professional career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where her clinical experience prompted publication of 2 articles in The American Journal of Occupational Therapy.
Early in her career she was called back to her hometown to care for her mother. It was here that she met her beloved Chuck, by way of a car accident (no serious injuries). Chuck was a WWII veteran using the GI bill to complete his education. At the time of the accident Chuck was attending Ricker College in Houlton. A long-distance courtship resulted in marriage. Following their wedding Arlean continued to work as an occupational therapist, moving with Chuck while he completed his college degrees at Springfield College in Massachusetts and then at Georgetown University in Washington DC. They eventually settled in Huntingtown in 1953.
Arlean left her professional career upon the birth of her first child, Robin, and remained a “stay at home” mom for a number of years. Not one to sit still, Arlean, while raising her six children, was involved in numerous activities and organizations including the Chesapeake Garden Club, her children’s PTA, troop leader for her daughters Girl Scout troop, political campaigns and church.
When Arlean’s youngest child, Michael, turned 5 years old Arlean attained her teaching certification and returned to a professional career as an elementary school teacher and taught 4th grade at Fairview Elementary. Upon completion of her teaching career Arlean immersed herself in a variety of activities including training her border collie, Vicky, doll crafting, gardening, travel, helping as office manager and seamstress for her daughter’s dance studio, spending time with her grandchildren and multiple church activities.
In 1993 Arlean and Chuck purchased a “camp” on Lake Ambejejus, outside of Baxter State Park, in the great state of Maine. It was here they would travel every year from June through September. This was Arlean’s happy place where she could swim, hike, visit with her family and pick blueberries to her heart’s content. This was the favorite vacation spot for her children and grandchildren and she delighted in each and every one of them. Arlean’s other happy place was in church where she loved her family in Christ. She was especially burdened to be of use in the ministries of prayer and missions. Arlean was faithful in using her gift of intercessory prayer. Heaven only knows the effect of Arlean’s “standing in the gap”.
Arlean’s family will always remember her loving spirit, quick wit, humor, devotion to her family and to our Lord. A visitation will be held at Rausch Funeral Home in Owings on Monday, December 20, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00.
A celebration of life will be held at Calvert Grace Church of Owings on Tuesday, December 21 at 11:00 am.
Due to the resurgence of COVID 19, masks will be required. In lieu of flowers Arlean requested gifts to be made in her name to Calvert Grace Church’s youth ministry.

It was with sadness that I read of Arlean’s passing. My mother, Polly, looked forward to visits with Arlean each summer and treasured their friendship that began when they were young children. My mother passed away on November 26. It is comforting to believe that two remarkable and much loved women are together and are at peace.
My condolences to the Mooradian family.
Really enjoyed reading about Arlean’s life story. Amazing indeed. I loved Arelean dearly. She was a friend but also filled in spaces in my world where I never had a grandmother or Mother-in-law. Two years ago I received a wonderful Easter card from Arlean. She detailed tea parties she would have with her grandchildren. They would all wear hats from long ago, even one once worn by the Queen of England.
I will miss her indeed,
Beth Gale
It was only today that I learned of Arlean’s passing. Arlean is my DNA cousin through our Currey/Currie shared match. I met her a few years back and learned quickly what a kind person and generous person she was. She told me several family stories and shared photos and a family tree with me. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. RIP Arlean Iris. 💕Cris
