Al will be missed by so many and there is still some disbelief that he is no longer with us. I first met Al when I came to work at St Elizabeths in 1993 and even though I left in 2003, while he stayed, we continued to see each other for 30 years at social events or when he came to Walter Reed for his medical appointments. His presence was always one of knowledge and support and I am proud to say that he continued to be a mentor and a friend. He even gladly welcomed my son Adam, also an October 14th baby, into his birthday club with his sister Doreathea. Al never needed to be the center of attention and anyone who took the time to talk to him and hear his stories and opinions would always be rewarded. I am keeping his amazing wife Cathie, his kids, grandkids, and all who loved him in my prayers that his memory will bring more smiles than tears.

I met Al at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where we became friends especially when he found out we had the same birthday and was the same age with me being the oldest by a few hours. His nickname for me thereafter was Sis. He will be missed. Condolences to Cathy and family from me and my children who acknowledged him as “Uncle “.
