Born on January 23, 1943, to Sarah Lucille Helmick and Clarence Kemp, Bobby grew up in a home filled with love alongside his siblings Rosie, John, Hubert, and Janet.
At just 16, Bobby answered a call to service and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1960. Daniel Boesz passed away unexpectedly on November 6, 2025 at his home in Scientists’ Cliffs
in Port Republic, MD at the age of 82.
Dan was born in Bridgeton, NJ to Frederick Arthur Boesz and Leona Shimp Boesz. He was
the middle child of the family, survived by his younger brother Arthur and predeceased by his
older brother Robert. Dan grew up working on a dairy farm milking cows, planting crops and
harvesting hay until he left for college at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. At the farm and later
during his years at Rutgers, Dan learned many lessons that served him for the rest of his life
including the value of hard work, the importance of a good education, a respect for the
opinions of others, a love of reading and the desire to learn something new every day.
Dan met the love of his life, Christine (Tina) Clark while they were students. They were married
on June 26, 1965, shortly after Dan graduated from Rutgers. He then served in the United
States Air Force as a flight instructor during the Vietnam War years. Dan continued his military
service in the Air Force Reserve while employed as a commercial pilot, first for Eastern Airlines,
and later as a captain for United Airlines. He was called up for active duty during Operation
Desert Storm where he was a squadron leader flying supplies and personnel through the
combat zones of the Middle East. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of colonel,
remembered fondly as the “old man” by the men he commanded.
Dan and Tina had a second home in Kauai for many years which they purchased in the 1970s
with four other friends. Some of his happiest times were the weeks, then months, spent in
Kauai where he, Tina and his friends, a group of fellow snowbirds and island year rounders,
shared a love of Kauai’s magnificent mountains and beaches, its rich culture and its aloha
spirit. Dan embraced it all, from his vast collection of custom-made Hawaiian shirts, to his
eagerness to share the island’s many ancient legends and his admiration for the Hawaiian
people.
Dan surrounded himself with circles of friends which he called his hui, the Hawaiian word for a
community of those who are tied together in friendship and support for one another. Dan had
several huis including his many dear friends in Maryland and Kauai. He also adored the families
of his two God children, Kelly Doda of St. Helena, CA and her husband Allen and daughter
Josie, and Chester Yue of Tampa, FL and his wife Lydia and daughters Christine and Lynna. To
be a member of one of Dan’s huis was, in his eyes, to be someone who could do no wrong and
for whom he could never do enough.
Dan and Tina had a nearly insatiable desire to travel and see the world. Together they explored
the Arctic and Antarctic regions, Europe, Africa, China and Australia. He especially loved
cruising and adventure travel, and continued to travel widely after Tina’s death in 2013.
Back in Maryland, Dan was a founding member and longtime supporter of the American
Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) where he also served on one of its first board of directors. He also
served ACLT as a dedicated, hard-working volunteer for over thirty-five years. He hiked the
trails in the land trust nearly every day and encouraged anyone he encountered along the way
to join and get involved in ACLT.
Dan will be sorely missed by the hundreds of people whose lives he touched who will
remember his infectious smiles, boundless energy and generous spirit.
Donations in Dan’s memory may be made to the American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) and St. Jude’s Hospital.

Brent George Loveless, age 54, of Owings, passed away unexpectedly on the 6th of November while on a hunting trip with his youngest son.
Brent was born in 1971, the youngest son to Everett and Patricia Loveless where he grew up with his brothers Robert, Bryan and Barry on the family farm in Owings.
He was a proud graduate of Northern High School in 1989, where soon after he found his niche in the construction industry, developing a career as a crane operator. He was first an operator at Bay Metal Works but soon mastered the art of running a small crane and started his own company, Brent’s Crane Services. It did not take long for Dunkirk Supply to take notice of his talents, passion and presence at every construction job in Southern Maryland. Dunkirk Supply brought Brent into the company, opening two new successful sections to their services, a crane division followed by a steel division. All these accomplishments would lead Brent into the big leagues of the crane world and become the head dispatcher for Crane Service Company.
He enjoyed hunting and crabbing in his earlier adulthood but as his family grew, his happiness shifted more toward them. Brent became a devoted father, making a point to be involved with their activities and attend every event between his four children. Even in their adulthood he would go to cheer on each of them in various moments of life.
He always found great joy in his family and was delighted when he was blessed with grandchildren. As going camping with his kids became more of a fond memory, Brent decided the tradition could be continued with his granddaughter. He remastered the art (or preparation) of camping and took as many trips as he could with family and friends. He loved the many group trips where all were welcome at his site in the mornings for a breakfast feast.
His world revolved around his grandkids, throughout the year each would be spoiled with the latest surprise their Pop-Pop had in mind.
A strong believer in community and doing things that were good for others, Brent was well known throughout the county for his generous heart and loving nature. Holidays were moments for Brent’s heart to shine. Halloween weekends on the campground held a decorated site, coordinated costumes with his two grandchildren and enough candy for each kid to come around thrice. When Christmas came around, the family knew that the Grinch had always been his favorite Christmas figure, so when his granddaughter fell in love with the green cheermister, it was only right that he bring the Grinch to life in Calvert. For any Christmas event they could attend, his oldest brother, Robert, would be the beloved Santa and Brent would portray the Grinch, bringing along his granddaughter as their sweet Cindy Lou Who.
Although Brent is gone, he will be held in the hearts of many. Brent is survived by his mother Patricia Loveless; loving partner Tina Sleeper; his children, William Loveless and wife Brianna, Alanis Loveless, Joseph Brooks, Kory Loveless and bonus child Bethany Higgs; brothers, Robert Loveless and wife Maria, Bryan Loveless and wife Stacie and Barry Loveless; his grandchildren, Harper Kalnoskas and Wesley Loveless; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends Brent was preceded in death by his father, Everett Loveless and sister-in-law, Sondra Loveless.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to continue Brent’s tradition of helping families in need during the holiday season. There will be a donation box at the funeral home to receive gift cards, and the family will be distributing them to schools throughout the county.

Melvin Louis Kaplan, known as Kapt by all who loved him, passed away peacefully with family by his side listening to the soothing sounds of Motown, early Tuesday morning. The first song played was My Girl, which was very meaningful. Mel was known to bring a special kind of light humor to any situation; his sarcasm and dark humor was not matched.
Born and raised in Washington D.C., moved to Wheaton Maryland and graduated from Wheaton High School class of 1963. The first of four children born to Joseph and Florence Kaplan.
Mel was a DIE-HARD Washington Fan, growing up as a Senators, Redskins, Bullets and Capitals fan and transitioned to a Nationals, Commanders, Wizards, and Capitals Fan. He was also a huge fan of the Maryland Terrapins and really any sport that is being televised.
Mel was an avid racing pigeon fancier. Started cleaning pigeon coupes at the age of 10, and his love and interest for the sport continued. He had an amazing whistle to call the pigeons home to land. Many afternoons were spent training them to prepare for races and his family enjoyed long talks and the excitement of seeing the birds come home and him to guide them in.
In November 1970, he married his wife of 55 years Paula Harlowe. In their early years, they spent time working on the farm together. Bailing hay, riding horses, and other farm adventures.
They first lived on Dalewood Drive in Wheaton with their two daughters, Leslie and Jena before they moved to Lanham, where they would spend the next 20+ years building their lives and welcomed their daughter Kerri. Together we enjoyed spending time at his parents, swimming in their pristine pool bearing the funny sign “We don’t swim in your toilet, please don’t pee in our pool” and many crab feasts together with his siblings and their families.
On many summer days, you would find him supporting his daughters on the Green Acres swim team-encouraging them to push through during the races. His family of five also spent many days learning how to water ski and relax on the Rhodes River. They also shared many trips to Deep Creek Lake and tent camping. Mel spent years coaching all 3 girls in Softball for the Lanham Boys and Girls Club. All while working at the printing press at Harlowe Typography.
Mel was loudest when cheering for his girls and somehow found an even louder cheer watching his grandchildren play sports, chorus, music, perform in cheer, dance or theater. If one of his grands were performing, you would find him in the audience with pride in his heart and tears in his eyes.
In 1994, he opened PetStop of Dunkirk, where he cared for pets and customers with love and compassion. PetStop was a dream of Mel’s, and he worked hard keeping the business running. After the store closed, Mel continued to serve his customers and friends with pet nail trims, and feather trimmings.
He began working part time at Rod n’ Reel tackle shop where he made a lot of new friends and got to know the captains and learned some of their fishing secrets and locations on the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River. He shared many adventures from storms to breakdowns and was never scared of a thing. He just enjoyed having his family by his side.
In 2001, he and his family moved to Lusby, Maryland for a home closer to work and fulfilled his lifelong dream to live on the water. Everyone plunged in to enjoy the water life with many days of fishing, crabbing, boat rides and all the water sports. He especially loved having family and friends visit. He was passionate about staying close and keeping in touch with family and friends near and far. Family and community were everything to him. He was one of kind, who leaves an unforeseeable void within the family that he created.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Kaplan, children Leslie, Jena and Mike Dudley, Kerri and Ryan Halterman. Grandchildren Jessica, Jasmyn, Parker, Avery, and Jaxton. Great Grandchildren Shaun, Marie, and Iviona. His younger brother Marc and Bonnie Kaplan. Nephews Howard and Kaitlyn, Jeremy, and Justin. Nieces Erin and Brian and Amy Wood. Sister in laws Kathy, Marcia and Sandra. Brother-in-Law Ronnie and Nancy. Amongst many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Florence Kaplan, beloved sisters Robin Kaplan and Susie Kaplan-Markley. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service conducted by Chaplain Bill Miller following at 12:00 p.m. at Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD 20657.

Anna Katherine Spohn Riggins, 95, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born on July 18, 1930, in Camden, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late William and Edna (Knode) Spohn.
Anna married the love of her life, Robert Edward Riggins, and together they shared a remarkable love story that spanned decades. Their marriage was one built on laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion — a partnership that set the standard for what true love looks like. In 1975, Robert and Anna built their forever home in the Shores of Calvert, where they spent the rest of their lives together. That house became a cherished gathering place filled with laughter, the smell of home-cooked meals, and the constant hum of family — children playing, grandchildren running through the yard, and great-grandchildren discovering the same joys their parents once did. The memories created within those walls will live on for generations.
Before dedicating her life to raising her family, Anna worked as a talented florist. She later became an avid bowler, proudly participating in leagues for an incredible 53 years. Her competitive spirit and infectious laugh made her a favorite among her bowling friends.
Anna was the heart of her family — a woman known for her warmth, her quirky humor, and her one-of-a-kind sayings that kept everyone smiling. She had a way of making each person feel special, and her laugh could light up an entire room. She loved long chats with family and friends, and the simple pleasures of life.

Anna’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. She lived a long and full life surrounded by family, and though her earthly chapter has come to a close, the memories she created — in her home, on the bowling lanes, and in the hearts of all who loved her — will remain forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna’s name can be made to the Forestville Volunteer Fire Department, honoring a family connection and community that meant so much to her.
Though she will be dearly missed, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Robert — together again, laughing, dancing, and watching over us all.

Susan Nash lived a life full of love, laughter, curiosity, and courage. Born to Murray and Jean Eisenberg and raised between Maryland and Washington, D.C., Susan’s early years were filled with warmth, family, and an emerging spirit of adventure. She graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School before earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland — the first step in a life defined by learning, connection, and purpose.
Soon after college, Susan married her first husband, Mark Nash. Together they welcomed two sons, Michael and Jon — her proudest achievements. Though she joked that she couldn’t risk “another wild Indian that would push her over the edge” (her words), she found her wish for girls later fulfilled with the arrival of her beloved granddaughters. To her, family was everything.
Being a mother came naturally to Susan. She was loving, supportive, and, as her sons’ friends would often say, “the cool mom.” Her warmth extended well beyond her family — she cultivated friendships that lasted decades, built on loyalty, laughter, and love. Dana Cohen, Carol Pensky, Karen Alexander, Bonnie Kogod, and Wendy Shapiro were among her dearest lifelong friends, and the bonds they shared were an example of the deep relationships Susan nurtured throughout her life.
Susan brought energy and curiosity to everything she did. She was passionate about fitness and turned that passion into a business, co-founding The Fitness Business with her partner, Anne Seta, long before wellness was trendy. Balancing entrepreneurship, motherhood, and a busy household, Susan showed her sons what dedication and drive looked like in action.
A lifelong traveler, Susan saw the world as both classroom and inspiration. From Italy to the Caribbean to Africa, she and her partners explored cultures, cuisines, and conversations. Travel, she often said, taught empathy — that no matter where you go, people everywhere share the same hopes for their families and their futures.
Susan also cared deeply about the world around her. A passionate reader and engaged citizen, she believed in standing up for what was right and worked tirelessly to support causes and people that aligned with her values. Her curiosity never faded, and her drive to leave the world better than she found it inspired everyone who knew her.
In her mid-forties, Susan found lasting love with Richard Holden of Baltimore, who she is survived by. Together, they shared 35 wonderful years filled with laughter, travel, and quiet moments of togetherness, whether it was a beautiful sunset at the end of the day or cuddling up by the roaring fire during the winter months. Their home on the St. Mary’s River became their sanctuary — a place of sunsets, stories, meaningful friendships, and serenity. It was also a gathering place for family, where grandchildren formed unbreakable bonds through creating special memories. An important part of her legacy is the strength of those bonds and the closeness the cousins share to this day.
Susan will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her strong beliefs, her generous heart, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the values she modeled, the laughter she sparked, and the countless lives she touched.
She is survived by her sons Michael (Kristine) Nash and their children Ella Rey and Cole; Jon (Jennifer) Nash and their children Gavin, Graham, and Charlotte; her two sisters, Elaine Shapiro and Jill Flax; and her many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Susan’s light continues to shine brightly in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her. In her honor, she would appreciate contributions to Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, which did a great job of providing both palliative and hospice care. You can make those contributions on the website or contact them directly at: 757-312-6314
