Joseph Eugene Humm, 48, of Owings passed away October 21, 2022, at his home with family by his side. He was born April 17, 1974, in Annapolis to Joseph and Martha (Wayson) Humm. Joe was raised on the family farm in West River. He married Diana Lynch on October 23, 1991, and they lived on the farm in West River until moving to Owings in 1994. Joe worked for Edwin A. & John O. Crandall as an equipment operator and foreman in marine construction for 30 years. He was very talented and skilled in every aspect of his job, whether it was building piers, laying stone, or welding, Joe had the skillset to get the job done. Joe loved a good project and working with his hands. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, farming, and spending time with his family. Joe was a welcoming man who was always willing to help. He welcomed his children’s friends into his home and treated them as his own, offering help and guidance whenever it was needed.

Joe is survived by his wife Diana Humm, children Brandon Humm and his wife Kelly, Ashton Humm, and Megan Humm, grandchildren Brooklyn and Cayden, and sisters Lisa Ritter and Beki Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Martha Humm.

Deb–
Thank you so much. Had no idea you ended up in Arizonia. Joey loved your Dad! Everyone at Crandell’s was part of the family to him and I appreciate how they treated him and my father. I was shocked when he ended up there and then when he enjoyed it so much — it was a calling. People who can excavate, place stone and make intricate designs that also support weight are gifted individuals. Thank you,
Lisa

Joe, you will be missed very much. I still remember the first day when you started working at Crandell’s. Starting as a laborer then quickly moving up to operating equipment, working on the stone projects with Buzzy till one day you became foreman. I remember working with your dad on various jobs as well.
You were always willing to offer help to others regardless of the situation and I admired you for that. I am going miss you very much. Your flame was extinguished far too early.

Me and joe became best friends in middle school in 1987. I ended up having to live with him and his family to finish the 8th grade. We had all kinds of fun during the time we shared together on the farm. When I had to move we still kept in touch. I will miss you my friend. See you on the other side.

Little Joey. That’s how I’ll always think of him. Joey was kind and thoughtful and dedicated to those he loved. For many years he has been like a son to my dad and I will always be thankful for how much kindness and love he showed my dad. The world has lost a good man.

Lisa and Beki so sorry for your loss.

Joe was a wonderful man with a big heart. He would do anything for anyone and he always made you feel welcomed. He was still my friend after I went through a nasty divorce. I lost so many friends but Joe, was still there checking on me. He was just that kind of man and friend! He will always hold a special place in my heart because he never took sides he was just there. He may be Gone but he will NEVER be forgotten. My prayers are with his wife, children, grandchildren and the rest of his family. May Joe forever Rest in Paradise and burn up those golden roads on his two wheels!!!
