To Faye and the entire Hammett family, I was so heartbroken to learn of Jack’s passing. I knew him as a Lions Club member, along with his grandson Adam. Jack was a kindhearted, polite, and gentle man. He always had a smile on his face. One time I was following him and Faye to an event on Potts Point. He was driving very slowly and when we got there I said “Jack, you drive like you don’t know where you’re going.” He replied “I was pointing out old farms along this road to Faye.” He had along and wonderful life. Prayers to the family at this difficult time. RIP Jack. You will be missed by many.

To all of the Hammett Family,
You were so blessed to have such a wonderful man in your lives for such a long time. I treasure the time I had with him, the work he did to help our family, all the work he extended to my family and the work he did to help make our house of Penwick a beautiful home and business. He was one of my parent’s best friend. I love to see him walk in the back door of the restaurant and grab a pumpkin muffin or two from the tray right after they came out of the oven.
Jack was such a kind man and would listen to any problems you were having and help you to sort them out…. for that I was grateful. I am know he will be surely missed by so many people. My heart goes out to your family with the deepest sympathy, prayers, love and hugs to each of you.

September 1 – Obituary: Jack Hammett
Jack, a large man with a huge smile and a heart to match. Not only was he kind-hearted, he would reach out to see if he could help others in any way… he was determined. I remember him for many, many years trying to purchase our “Beach Property” on the Patuxent River… every time he would inquire, the answer was “Not Today”. So, from time to time, he would make another contact and try again – receiving the same answer. He LOVED that spot and really wanted to make a purchase.
As my Mom aged and the property didn’t get used as often as it had in the past… I could see the future of the property becoming a “Battle” between the siblings. Mom and I decided it would be better to sell it and the “First” person who came to mind was Jack. I think he must have been so excited when our Realtor contacted him; one of his dreams had come true. I could not think of a better person to sell it to as we knew his love for it and would take care of it.
When my brother, Richard, passed away, he stated he wanted his ashes to be distributed over the “Beach Property”. I didn’t know if that would be possible as it was not ours any more. When I contact Jack – he was so humble, kind, inviting and accommodating. We will never forget Jack’s Kindness shown to our family.
It is with a heavy heart that I hear of his passing – but – I KNOW God has plans. HE could not have picked a better person to extend the beautification of HIS GARDEN!!!

Jack was a great man and an asset to our county. I’m so sad to hear of his passing. I’m always reminded of the song “Who’s going to fill their shoes” when I hear of one of my mentors passing, and the answer is simply no one. They just don’t make them like Jack anymore. Rest In Peace Sir.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the entire family at this time. I have many memories of Jack, Faye, Lonnie and Gary over the years at Calverton School and in our beloved community here in Calvet County. You could always count on him to serve his community in any way he could and he almost never missed a church supper or any other event . There are many who live in the beautiful homes he built throughout the county and he has certainly left his mark on many organizations and charities such as the Lions Club and the Historical Society. He will be missed by all who knew him. He lived a full life and I am sure you all have wonderful memories to help you get this difficult time. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
