George Lloyd Ferguson, Sr., of Churchton, passed away June 28, 2022 at his home. He was born January 8, 1939 in Washington, D.C. to Harvey Leon, Sr. and Alma Teresa (Lloyd) Ferguson. George was raised in Upper Marlboro and attended Frederick Sasscer High School. He married Linda Lou Ridgley on September 21, 1957 and they lived in Lothian and Churchton. George loved taking trips to Florida, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his partner Jacquelyn Hoerner and his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, a son George L. Ferguson, Jr. and siblings Winfred Lagana, Gloria Huss, and Harvey, Robert and Melvin Ferguson and a great-grandson Jonathan Sturgell. George is survived by children Susan Sturgell and husband Billy of Friendship, Tina Simmons of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lisa Gribble of Friendship, Janet Busick and husband John of Churchton, Daniel Ferguson, Sr. and wife Cee of Stafford, VA, Sandra Leech and husband Hank of Dunkirk and Kenneth Ferguson, Sr. and wife Heidi of Deale. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, William Sturgell III, Amanda Sturgell, Carlie Simmons, George Ferguson, III, David Leonard, Missy Smith, Rachel Busick, Daniel Ferguson, Jr., Tyler Ferguson, Jessica Atkisson, Lindsay Sweet, Aaron Olesky, Kenneth Ferguson, Jr. and Kevin Ferguson,seventeen great grandchildren, Liam, Joseph, George IV, Christopher, Kiara, Jaidyn, Tristan, Jordan, Lily, Klaire, Lanah, Lilith, Lucie, Quinn, Hunter, Ophelia and Penelope, sisters Sylvia Ferguson of PA, and Robin (Terry) Myers of Mechanicsville, and a daughter-in-law Theresa Ferguson.
Mr. Ferguson’s services and interment are private. Expressions of sympathy in his name may be made to the American Lung Association.
