Shannon A. Jackson

  • Saturday, May 29, 1976 - Friday, April 3, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Shannon A Jackson announces his passing on April 3, 2020.  He was born May 29, 1976 at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia.   Shannon leaves behind his wife of 22 years Heather (Dittmar) and children Jett (16) and Jalen (13), parents Charles & Sharon Jackson, brother Casey and wife Lori-Ann (Cline) Jackson, mother-in-law Kathy Meyer and brother-in-law Tate Dittmar.  He was “Uncle Banana” (a name affectionately given to him by his then 3 year old niece, Myla) and Merida.  He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles and cousins and dogs Apollo and Brooklyn.

TSGT Jackson was employed at the 459th Air Refueling Unit at Andrews AFB.  Although he helped to keep the Air Force flying, in his earlier years, his passion for automotive customization led to his owning and operating Strictly Modified Customs in Westover , WV.  Shannon’s creativity and skill set enabled him to excel in his craft which led to his involvement in several spectacular vehicle builds, some of which landed in print magazines.   Shannon shared his love of hockey as a teammate on the District Warriors Veteran’s Ice Hockey team and coached numerous youth hockey teams most recently as coach of the Maryland Student Hockey League high school team, Chesapeake Lightning and assistant coach of the Metro Elite U18 Maple Leafs, in Odenton, Maryland.  Shannon’s huge heart provided him the grace to be a “father figure” to many of his players and was given the nickname “Big Shan” or “Coach Banana”.

We don’t know why Shannon decided to leave us so early, but we find comfort in the knowledge that above all family was always #1 to him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Shannon. He was my neighbor and one of my first friends when I moved to Westover, WV from NOVA. I remember cruising High St in his pops truck in 9th/10th grade just to be cool and to be seen. He will be missed. Sending love and prayers to his family and all that knew him. ????????

April 16 – Obituary: Shannon A. Jackson

To Heather, Jett, Jalen, and Shannon’s Family, we were so sorry to hear about Coach Shannon. While there are no words suitable to express our deepest sympathies, we wanted to let you know that Shannon had such a positive impact on all of us. Griffin will always remember him being there at games and practices and was always encouraging and supportive. We’re all better for having known Shannon. We pray that somehow he knows how much we appreciate his service to our country and the time he spent coaching our son. Often coaches never know the impact they have, but we want you all to know that. We pray that Shannon is standing (or maybe playing hockey) within the gates of heaven surrounded by God’s love. We pray for you all, that fond memories and our thoughts and prayers sustain you during this difficult time. We’re sending all our love. Rob, Kristin, and Griffin Siegfried (#22)

To one of my oldest friends, are friendship started back in the 3rd grade and anyone who knew us would usually find one with the other all the way up through high school but life tends to pull people apart as time goes by. I’ll never forget you buddy. To his parents, Sharon and Alli you guys raised a great person and one that I’m proud to say was my friend. Heather, Jett and Jalen I pray that you will find comfort over the next coming days and we will be praying for you all. Love The Seggie’s.
