Linda Kay Kromer

  • September 26, 1944 - October 29, 2026

Linda Kay Kromer, 82, of Owings passed away October 29, 2026. She was born September 26, 1944, in Washington, DC to Crider William and Ruth Iola (Bierly) Clevenstine, preceded in death by her sister Donna C. Sheridan. Linda grew up in Forest Heights and graduated from Oxon Hill High School. She married Mark Kromer on August 19, 1989, and they lived in Bowie for a few years before moving to Owings. She started her career working for NASA where she proudly worked on the Apollo Program. Linda later went to work for the Department of Transportation with the Federal Highway Administration in the Office of Construction Maintenance and eventually moved to the Department of Justice where she worked as a congressional liaison, retiring in 2002 after a long-distinguished career working with many high-ranking attorney generals. Linda was an active member of Mt. Harmony Lower Marlboro United Methodist Church where she enjoyed volunteering with the church yard sales and selecting Angel Tree ornaments for children at Christmas. She loved watching the sunrise in Ocean City with a cup of coffee on the canal, reading, especially Nora Roberts novels, spending time on the beach with her family, cooking, and family gatherings. Linda was a devoted mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who loved her family and helping others. She will be greatly missed.

Linda is survived by her loving husband Mark Wilson Kromer, children Bernard William Matthews and his wife Laurel, and Jeffrey Lawrence Matthews and his wife Jessamyne, all of Chesapeake Beach, grandchildren Jacob and Madelyne Matthews, sister Jean Clevenstine of Rose Haven, sisters in law Carolyn Manetti of Charlotte, NC and Barbara Rocca of Leesburg, VA and dear friend Terry Samuels.

To know her was to love her.

In memory of Linda donations can be made to Mount Harmony Lower Marlboro United Methodist Church, Owings, MD or Friends of the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter, Sunderland, MD.

A private graveside service will take place in Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
