Patricia “Pat” Ann Thomas, 85, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 6, 1941, Pat was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She and her beloved husband, Lawrence Thomas Sr., were married in 1960 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in College Park, Maryland, beginning their life together and then going on to have three cherished children, Larry, Colleen, and Jim. Pat brought warmth, kindness, and strength to those around her throughout her life, creating a home and family rooted in love and tradition.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Thomas Sr.; her parents, Raymond Lyons Sr. and Rose Lyons; her brother, Raymond Lyons Jr.; and her sister, Marie Dorsey.
She is survived by her devoted children: Lawrence “Larry” Thomas; Colleen Latvala (Dirk); and James “Jim” Thomas (Marcy), her eight grandchildren: Andrew Thomas (Allison); April Penn (Mike); Sarah Sadlek (Nate); Tyler Latvala (Michelle); Branden Latvala; Logan Latvala; Emily Latvala; and Joshua Thomas, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In her youth, Pat was an accomplished pianist with exceptional talent – the nuns even wanted her to play professionally. However, she chose not to pursue this path, as she disliked playing the piano. She went on to live a life of quiet sacrifice—giving endlessly of herself to ensure that her children’s memories were filled with wonderful Christmas mornings, joyful holiday celebrations, school field trips, and rides to and from sports practices. Most of all, she ensured that her children were safe, happy, and deeply loved, offering regular prayers for each of them throughout their lives.
An avid reader, Pat also loved working in her flower gardens at home and tending to the vegetable garden at her aunt and uncle’s farm. Professionally, she served as a faithful patient liaison for more than 25 years at PG Orthopedic Associates, enjoyed her years as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher for the Prince George’s County School System, and was very involved in the PTA.
Pat took great pride in her family history and heritage, taking special joy in tracing her mother’s lineage back to Clan Urquhart along the shores of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.
A viewing from 10-11 am followed by a Funeral Mass, will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Owings, MD. Interment and a graveside service will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk, MD.

October 2 – Obituary: Patricia “Pat” Ann Thomas
I am 100 percent confident that my mothers prayers have saved my life more times than I can image . Your fortitude , strength and toughness are my inspiration. We fought your health battles together day by day for the past 9 years , with the knowledge that no matter how things turned out that you would be ok in the end. Dad has been in heaven since 88 and had he been here to help us I know he would have been heartbroken to see you suffer . I share his heartbreak. i told you often I’d trade places in a heartbeat if I could . Thank you for everything you have done for me , standing by my side and in my corner. Rest now , you fought hard to stay with us . I know you still pray for for all of us , prayers from heaven are even more special and warm my heart . Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine ,et lux perpetua luceat eis . Requiescant In Pace. Amen Love you, L ,
