Norman Floyd Briggs, Jr.

Norman Floyd Briggs, Jr. passed away September 16, 2026, peacefully at his home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida at age 93.  Norman was born on April 10, 1933 to parents Alice PAULINE and Norman Briggs, Sr. at home, 1978 4^th Street, Washington, D.C.

Norman always had a story to tell about his younger years; whether growing up in College Park, MD; being in the last graduating class of Greenbelt High School; or his college days at Furman University, Greenville, SC where he graduated in 1956.

After college graduation Norman joined the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant, later becoming Captain. After completing his military service, he returned to College Park to work at his father’s plumbing business, becoming a Master Plumber. Upon his father’s retirement he took over the business and added a plumbing supply store which was according to Norman the forerunner of Hechinger’s.

After retiring Norman and his wife decided to spend winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL to get away from the cold and snow. Come April Norman was always ready to return to their home on Saint Leonard Creek, St. Leonard, MD. Where Norman was known as the “stick man.”  He was in charge of maintaining the road he and his sons had made, into the small development he lived in.

Norman loved boating. When he was very young his Grandmother Nelson made him a cardboard boat which started his love of boating.  His last boat was a trawler, but the boat he enjoyed the most was his 37’ Gulfstar sailboat named WISP.

Norman was an active member of Waters United Methodist Church, Calvert County Rotary Club, Rotary Yacht Squadron of the Chesapeake Bay, and Solomons Island Yacht Club.

Norman is survived  by his wife Constance Briggs; Children: Cheryl Correll (Kirk), Christy Bailey (Fred), Mark Briggs (Wendie), Scott Briggs (Kathy), and Russell Briggs; Sister: Donna Beall; Grandchildren: Austin Correll (who was also a loving care giver for PopPop), Justin Craighead, Kayla Al Helli, Brian and David Briggs,  Brandon Briggs, Cody Master, Melissa Lee, Brandy and Crystal Pittman; and eleven Greatgrandchildren.

Predeceasing Norman was his Daughter: Becky Briggs Master and Step-Daughter: Wendy Stelmach.

Services will be held at Water Memorial United Methodist Church, 5400 Mackall Road, Saint Leonard, MD 20685 on Wednesday, September 23rd with viewing at 2 PM until the time of services at 3 PM. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
