A. J. Simons

Albert John Simons “AJ”, (77) born on May 18, 1949, died on September 17, 2026, peacefully surrounded by his family in Annapolis, Maryland.

AJ was born to, now deceased, Howard L. Simons and Mildred C. Simons in Cheverly, MD.  He was the brother of Howard L. Simons, Jr of Dagsboro, DE.  He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Plitt of Gambrills, MD.  AJ married the love of his life, Dorothy A. (Twohig) Simons, of Bowie, and Ocean City, MD.  Dorothy and AJ were married soon after high school and reflects a lifetime of shared experiences, growing together from a young age and building a deep bond over many years enabled shared laughter, kindness and the way he touched the lives of everyone around him. His legacy lives on through his family.

AJ is the loving father of Kyle S, (Anna) Simons, of Hollywood, MD, Casey M. Simons Mullikin, of Bowie MD and Matthew R. (Sheri) Simons of Queenstown, MD.   AJ was the adoring “Pop Pop” of Svend and Poppy Simons, Shae (Dustin) Cloutier, Ty, Bree and Cole Mullikin, Paige and Aidan Simons; and Bonus “Pop Pop” of Gracie, Kat and William Hutton and Anthony, Brianna and Kyle Oughton.

AJ will be remembered for his unwavering sense of duty. He proved his hard-working ethics by having a long career (40 years) with Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission. AJ was a Volunteer Firefighter at Co. 39 in Bowie. He was a soccer coach for the Bowie Boys and Girls Club.  He was the President of the Western Chesapeake Bay Bowling Association, and a coach at the Crofton Bowling Center.  AJ was the President of the Bowie Hockey Club as well.  AJ also served as Vice President and Manager of the Starfish II Condominium in Ocean City.  He enjoyed golf, NASCAR and gardening, although “his lawn” was his true passion!  AJ loved the beach along with his friends at the “Bull on the Beach.”  Moreover, AJ proved to be the “World’s Finest Breakfast Chef,” certified by extended family members and, most important, his crew of grands!

AJ will be missed greatly by trusted mentors and many friends, and remembered mostly for his kindness, his quiet strength, devotion to his family and his infectious smile.
