Biruta Inese Bicevskis

Biruta Inese Bicevskis, 90, of Owings, Maryland, passed away on August 6, 2026, at her son and daughter-in-law’s home surrounded by family. She was born on May 8, 1936, in Aloja, Latvia, to Alma (Vitols) and Janis Rozitis. In 1942, when she was six years old, she escaped with her family from Latvia to Germany during World War II. They spent the following eight years residing in displacement camps, until they gained sponsorship to move to the United States in 1950. They eventually made their home in Syracuse, New York, where Biruta enrolled in secretarial school. On July 25, 1959, she married Imants Bicevskis. They were blessed with two sons and Biruta became a fulltime homemaker and mom for many years. They moved to Bowie, Maryland in 1976 and in later years settled in Calvert County, Maryland. Biruta was an active member of the Latvian-American communities in both Syracuse and Maryland. She enjoyed playing card games, and folk dancing with her friends. She loved fashion and expressing her personal style, meticulously planning her outfits every day. She was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother, who truly cherished her family.

Biruta is survived by her sons, Peter Bicevskis (Ivonda), and Andy Bicevskis (Catherine); grandchildren Ashleigh Mitchell (Tyler), Megan Guensch (Drew), Annele Bicevskis, and Liene Bicevskis; great-grandchildren Hannah, Reese, Maggie, Annabeth, Josephine, and Markus, and a “grandpup,” Laila. She was preceded in death by her husband, Imants Bicevskis; her parents, Janis and Alma Rozitis; siblings Ilga Robinson, and Janis Rozitis, Jr.
