John Quincy Cole

John Quincy Cole, 93, of Solomons, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2026.

Born on December 8, 1932, in Van Wert, Ohio, John was the son of the late Lester Frederick Cole and Luvenia Donart Cole. He spent much of his life in California before relocating to Calvert County, Maryland, in 2020 to be closer to family.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. His military service included the Korean War, and he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He carried the values of service, integrity, and dedication throughout his life.

Following his military service, John enjoyed a long and successful career as an engineer with Tracor. He had a natural curiosity and a knack for fixing just about anything. Whether it was repairing something around the house or taking on his next project, John was happiest when he was building, tinkering, or finding a solution. His hands were rarely still, and his determination and work ethic were admired by everyone who knew him.

John also found great joy in giving back to his community. He volunteered at Armstrong Woods State Natural Reserve in Sonoma County, California, where he enjoyed spending time outdoors and preserving the natural beauty he loved.

To know John was to know a true gentleman. He was easygoing, kind-hearted, and had a calm presence that made others feel comfortable. His family remembers him as someone who never sought the spotlight but quietly made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved, sharing stories, working on projects, and relaxing with a cold beer from time to time. He was a man of simple pleasures, unwavering character, and quiet strength.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Ann Fradd Cole; his second wife, Ethel R. Cole; his daughter, Regina A. Zamora; and his sister, Pat Mosier.

He is survived by his children, John Cole of California, Leslie F. Cole of North Carolina, Jeffery S. Cole of Florida, and Laura R. Cole of Maryland; his stepson, Joe Rogoff of California; three beloved grandchildren; 7 treasured great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

John’s legacy is one of service, hard work, kindness, and humility. He taught those around him the value of perseverance, lending a helping hand, and finding joy in life’s simple moments. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he leaves behind will continue to bring comfort and smiles to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
