Joan Lee Pickett Thye

Joan Lee Pickett Thye, 93, of Solomons, MD, and previously of Silver Spring, MD, New Bern, NC and Glen Mills, PA, passed away on July 10, 2026 at Asbury Healthcare Center.

Born July 28, 1932, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Lindley Pickett and Nita (Cozad) Pickett.

Joan graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington, DC in 1950.  She attended the University of Maryland where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.  Joan married her husband, the late Carl John “Jack” Thye, Jr. on June 23, 1951, in Washington, DC.  They were Calvert County summer residents starting in 1965, and Joan became a permanent resident in 2018 after the passing of Jack.  Joan was a homemaker until 1974 when she became a Finance Manager for Harkins Builders, Inc.  She held that position for seventeen years, retiring in 1991.  Joan enjoyed sewing, traveling, making jewelry and playing bridge.

Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Thye Bushnell and William D. Bushnell of Port Republic, MD; her son, Scott Randall Thye of Lakeland, FL; her sister, Evelyn Pickett Hurston of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Judy Williamson Thye.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
