William P. Bozman, Sr. (Bill, Dad, Pop-Pop) of St. Leonard, MD passed away at 97, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at his residence, with his family by his side.  He was born in Princess Anne, MD and grew up in University Park, MD.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a Personnel Management Specialist. He earned the rank of Corporal and qualified to be Master Sergeant of Military Operations. He said that the Army taught him how to accomplish things as a team with “a bunch of great men,” which was beneficial when he returned to civilian life. Bill joined The Hecht Company in 1953, where he worked for 37 years before retiring as Divisional Vice President of Maintenance and Construction.  He always credited his success to the hard work and dedication of the people on his team, establishing many lifelong friendships. After retiring, he volunteered for the Beaches Water Co-op from 1997 to 2015 and has a water pumping station named in his honor. He was also an active member of the Long Beach Civic Association.

Bill met Jean Elizabeth Thomas at The Hecht Company. They were married on June 12, 1959 and enjoyed 66 years together, realizing that they had found the perfect spouse and best friend to raise a strong, loving family.

In his younger years, Bill showed his wild side by riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He always loved the Chesapeake Bay, sailing during his teenage years through his retirement on boats including his Aquacat, Flying Scott and Catalina 27, named Spindrift. He enjoyed doing home carpentry projects, activities near the water and tinkering with electronic devices whenever possible. He learned to use many of the newest gadgets, which allowed him to perform tasks electronically, such as tracking the stock market.

After retiring, Bill designed and oversaw the renovation of their Long Beach home.  After its completion in 1992, he relaxed on the deck overlooking Flag Harbor and enjoyed the sun while sipping wine, often joined by his granddaughter Angela.  Bill followed sports any time his children or grandchildren were involved. His grandson, Ryan, played on many sports teams, so Bill attended the games to cheer on his “Champ”. Many years later, he rooted for his grandson, Evan, while attending many of his sporting events. Bill was also proud of his granddaughters, Caitlin and Natalie for their academic achievements.  He had unique, loving relationships with each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed many family vacations, as well as vacations that he and Jean took with friends.

When asked how he would like to be remembered, Bill answered, “I would like to think I have accomplished many things in my life. I was able to receive an education which enabled me to achieve many things. I came from a great family, served in the Army, married a wonderful woman and raised three successful sons. My career allowed me to adequately provide for my family. My grandchildren and great-grandchildren bring me much joy.  I have a lot to be grateful for and feel that in order to get to this point in my life, I made the grade with passing marks.”

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; children, William P. Bozman, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Owings, MD, Stephen K. Bozman of St. Leonard, MD and Jeffrey T. Bozman and his wife, Nicole, of Chesapeake Beach, MD; grandchildren, Angela Hawkins (Chris), Ryan Bozman (Allison), Caitlin Bozman (Josh), Natalie Bozman and Evan Bozman; great-grandchildren Carson Hawkins, Aubree Hawkins and Charlotte Bozman; and nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Bozman and Edna M. (Payne) Bozman; sister, Gloria Newberry and brother, Robert Bozman.
