Born on June 17, 1935, in Prince Frederick, Maryland, Jerry was the son of the late Wilson Kenneth Hill and Mamie Madeline Hill Wilson. He is also preceded in death by his stepfather, T. Rayner Wilson and his in-laws, John E. Humphrey Jr. and Eunice Humphrey.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda Lee Humphrey Hill; daughter, Jeri Lynn McClure (husband Randy) of Martinsburg, West Virginia; three sons, Kenneth L. Hill (wife Alice) of Charles Town, West Virginia; Jonathan R. Hill of Petersburg, West Virginia; and Michael D. Hill (wife Abigail) of Martinsburg, West Virginia; eight grandchildren, Sydney, Alex, Emily, Caroline, Logan, Chris, Kiersten, and Kari; one sister, Joy Bowen of Lusby, Maryland; sister-in-law Bonnie Zinn-Taylor (husband Kirk) of Lusby, Maryland; brother-in-law Jay Humphrey (wife Rita) of Branford, Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry graduated from Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, Maryland, in 1953 and served in the United State Air Force from 1955-1958. He was a welder with the T. Rayner Wilson Blacksmith Shop in Lusby, Maryland, from 1959 to 1967 and electronics technician at Patuxent Naval Air Station, Maryland, from 1967-1977. In 1977, Jerry changed careers and moved his family to Petersburg, West Virginia, where he taught welding at the South Branch Vocational Center until his retirement in 2000.
Jerry loved to travel. He and his wife Linda enjoyed exploring West Virginia and discovering the state’s beauty and learning its history. Their travels took them across the country, trips to Texas, Niagara Falls, and the Grand Canyon were especially memorable. Jerry also loved to bowl and was a league bowler at Golden Lanes in Petersburg for many years. In his early years, Jerry enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Jerry was an avid reader of history, spy novels, and westerns, especially those written by Louis Lamour. When Jerry retired two things were a constant, a good book and a McDonald’s Frappe!
