Ruth Marie Green
April 16, 1935 – August 10, 2024
Ruth Marie Weems Green died Augurst 10, 2024 in Solomons, MD after a full and well-lived life. Ruth was born April 16, 1935, in St. Leonard, MD to James Edward and Marie Anne (Wood) Weems. She lived in St. Leonard most of her life, with a decade-long interval in sunny Florida. She attended Prince Frederick Elementary and graduated from Calvert High School in 1953, marrying Norman Guinn Green that same year.
Ruth and Norman spent their early married life in Calvert County and Arlington, VA before returning to Ruth’s hometown where they raised their six children. Ruth’s days were filled with taking care of the family, but she enjoyed working outside the home as well. Her eclectic assortment of jobs included: AT&T switchboard operator in Washington, DC, postal clerk in Orlando, FL, and receptionist at Calvert Internal Medicine in Prince Frederick, MD. But the job she had the longest and treasured the most was working alongside her parents for 20 years at their St. Leonard business, Weems Texaco. Ruth said it was wonderful to work near her children and spend quality time with her parents every day.
Always ready to experience somewhere new, she visited all 50 states, the Caribbean, and Europe, where she enjoyed a favorite trip to Greece. Travel was only one of Ruth’s loves, genealogical research was another. She spent many years filling in her family tree, tracing her ancestors back to their arrival in Calvert County, MD in the early 1700’s and then to IO00’s Scotland. Like many of those ancestors, she was a lifelong member of Christ Church in Port Republic, MD, serving as a Sunday school teacher as well as a helper at the church’s annual tournament supper. Ruth was very proud of the deep roots the Weems family has in Calvert County. Her thousands of hours of painstaking research created a legacy for her descendants to treasure.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, as well as her parents, grandson (Samuel Ray Gross), brothers (Robert Edward Weems, Sr., Claude Ronald Weems), and nephew (Robert Edward Weems, Jr.).
She is survived by her children, Arlie Green (Lisa Logan) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Lenoir Green (Sammie Quesenberry) of St. Leonard, MD; Faith Moore (Dale) of Prince Frederick, MD; Hope Guinn (Shawn) of Toano, VA; Kimberley Wilson (Jeffrey) of Woodbridge, VA; and Gayle Green (Lorre Fritchy) of Lawrence, MA.
Ruth is also loved and missed by her 16 grandchildren: April, Jill, Jennifer, Alexis, Kathleen, Dustin, Michael, Lenna, Jared, Brandyn, Andrew, Ashleigh, Matthew, Julia, Jacqueline, and Camden; as well as 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Richard Dale Weems (Becky) of St. Leonard, MD, sister-in-law Shirley T. Weems of Port Republic, MD, lifelong friends, Dorothy Greene and Nancy Zinn of St.
Leonard, MD, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held on August 14, 2024. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.

Good morning Pat,
Thank you so very much for your very kind words about our Mom. I know you know how much she loved to be on Facebook. She always commented about a lot of your postings that she really liked and got a laugh out of. Again thank you.
The Green Family.
Ruth was so loved at Solomons Nursing Center and we miss her dearly. I don’t think there is a staff member in that building who didn’t go and sit and chat with her on a daily basis. She used to say she had 7 children but we were all her children also. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. My she finally be at peace and with her husband whom she talked about everyday.
Lenoir & family,
Your mother was a fantastic, funny lady who loved her God, family and country. I remember the days when merchants would work with their food stamps at the bank and we would always get around to talking about you and your family.
I pray she is at peace with her God and her loved ones and that you and your family, when you think of her will have a smile on your face remembering all the fun, good times. God bless her and you all.
