Joseph Gilbert Kirby “Cheesie”, 74, a lifelong resident of Calvert County passed away April 2, 2024. He was born August 15, 1949 in Prince Frederick to Joseph Sidney and Louise (Greene) Kirby. He is survived by his siblings Zeta Brady and Raymond Greene, godchildren Crystal Said, Timothy Hatfield, William Hatfield, and Christina Herbert, and “grandchildren” Lucas, Ayden, Lena, Olivia, and Tyler. He was preceded in death by his brothers Norman and Thomas Greene.

So sorry for your loss Zeta and Ramond. Growing up we had strong family ties and spent many weekends and holidays together at one home or the other. I was the older cousin and tried to boss but that did not work out. Gilbert was a wonderful person of whom we were all proud to call family.
Such a kind and gentle man, known by many and will be dearly be missed by his loved ones, extended family and many friends. Remember the good times and hold his loved ones in prayers. God bless the life and memory of Cheesie.

May you rest in peace Cheesie. You will be greatly missed. We considered you our family for the past 35 years and I am sure you felt we were all your extended family also. Thanks for being there to help raise all my children and being the extra parent that you were. Your love will be engrained in our children’s hearts forever and our grandchildren’s. They will cherish all of the memories you made with them. We know you will still be looking down on us and watching the grandchildren grow. May God bless you. Thanks for always being there for us and including us as your family. May we always cherish his loving memories and carry them in our hearts forever. Condolences out to his brother and sister also as I know you all will miss him dearly as we will.

Condolences to the family and friends. I just met Cheesie this past year when I came to work for the county. But he made a very lasting impact in so little time because of how genuine he was. God bless you, Cheesie. You will be greatly missed!
I worked with Gilbert at the Calvert Independent. He was funny but serious, especially when it came to work and doing things the right way. So very sorry to hear of his passing.
