Stephen Edward Cherry, Sr.
January 19, 1954 – September 11, 2023
Stephen Edward Cherry, Sr., 69, of Huntingtown passed away September 11, 2023. He was born January 19, 1954 to Edward Cummings and Bertha Elizabeth (Gower) Cherry. Steve loved spending time at home in the garden with Denise and playing in the pool with his granddaughter Elizabeth. He also enjoyed woodworking and 3D laser printing in his workshop. He loved to walk, hike, and travel with Denise, and enjoyed a once in a lifetime trip to England, Ireland, and Scotland in 2016 where he got to visit many castles, historic landmarks, and distilleries. He also loved traveling locally around Maryland and Virginia to visit Longwood Gardens with Denise or take a day trip to visit with the kids and try out a new restaurant or local festival.
As his friends and family know, Steve’s favorite genre of movies, tv, and books were Sci Fi, and his favorite band of all time was Pink Floyd. Steve’s favorite concert was David Gilmour at Radio City Music Hall in 2016.
When his kids were younger, Steve led the Boy Scout Troop, and was on the sidelines at many of the marching band competitions, baseball games, and volleyball games cheering the kids on.
He was lovingly nicknamed the “Huntingtown Waver”, as he always greeted everyone with a big smile, wave and friendly “hello”. He was a great husband, father, and friend to all and will be very missed.
Stephen is survived by his wife Denise Cherry, children Stephen Cherry, Jr. (Ronnie Apperson) of North Chesterfield, VA, Daniel Cherry (Erica Voss) of Huntingtown, Lauren Griffiths (Justin) of San Diego, CA, and David Cherry (Megan) of Randallstown, MD, granddaughter Elizabeth Cherry, cousin Fran Gower and Bonnie Bergstrom, and godson Nicholas Boito.

Denise, Lauren and family, Steve was an amazing man. Brad and I will never forget the amazing Maryland seafood that he introduced us to, boiling crabs and frying oysters. He was a very kind, generous and loving man. He will be so missed by so many. Rest in peace Steve.

Denise and family,
I was shocked to hear of Steve’s passing. He was my “twin” born on the same date and in the same hospital. He certainly was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. So many memories to remember him by. He will be missed by many.
May the Lord give your comfort and peace during the difficult times ahead.
Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you.
The world is a much poorer place without your wonderful presence, Steve. You were such a wonderful person and taught me quite a lot about how people should be.
You are much loved and missed and I am forever grateful to have been able to call you friend.
Denise, if there is anything you need that I can help with, I am here.
Steve’s spirit and energy constantly gave me hope/proved that work can be fun. His presence was always known/looked forward to in the best way possible and appreciated. Every interaction I had with Steve left a smile in the air. May he rest easy and his family in peace.
