Michael Patrick “Mike” Mooney
April 15, 1963 – May 12, 2023
Michael “Mike” Mooney was a loving father, devoted partner, grandfather, brother, son, and beloved friend. He left this world on May 12, 2023 at the age of 60. He passed quickly in his home in Lusby, MD. We find peace in knowing he didn’t suffer.
Mike was the son of Gershom Abraham and Diana Griffith, born on April 15, 1963. He attended South Carroll High School where he excelled in both academics and athletics. He cherished his days of high school football, winning the state championship his junior and senior years. He went on to get his Bachelor’s degree, followed by a prosperous and successful career as a manager at the Government Publishing Office in Washington, DC.
He is survived by his two daughters, Erin Meredith and Lauren Jones. His abundant love for his girls was known by everyone around him, and his legacy will live on in them. He blessed them with his zeal for sports, proudly coaching their soccer teams from a young age. He supported them at every single game, event, graduation, wedding, and an endless list of life’s milestones. He was not only an incredible father, but a wonderful grandfather to his granddaughter, Leianna Meredith.
Mike also leaves behind his dearly beloved partner, Kimberle Kenworthy. They shared many blissful memories together – adventures and simple pleasures alike – and he loved her children like his own. He and Kimi loved spending time with their friends, traveling together, riding his motorcycle, enjoying dinners by the water, days on their boat, and countless nights singing karaoke.
All are welcome to celebrate his life. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD 20657. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Rausch Funeral Home, Lusby, MD. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Highlands Memorial Gardens, Port Republic, MD. A reception will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Vera’s White Sands, 1200 White Sands Drive, Lusby, MD 20657 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to donate to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or https://woundedwarriorproject.org.
Mike was a friend to everyone he met and will be so dearly missed.

Dear Erin, Lauren and Kimi,
Whenever we saw Mike we saw his terrific smile and GREAT-hearted nature. Always friendly and kind-loved by so many. He will truly be missed at our house parties, on the island, on the boat, and at the many watering holes where we all congregate and laugh.
Whenever we think about Mike he is smiling that same warm smile with those same kind eyes. That is how we will remember him…always. Much love to you all and may you find comfort with the support of friends and family.
Love,
Dave and Cindy
So sorry for your loss, Mike was one of the best. We were high school buddies and even at that young of age you knew he had your back. Truly one of a kind and can never be replaced. He will live with us everyday until we meet again. God speed, love you Mooney
I am so saddened and shocked to hear of Mike’s passing. He had a smile that would light up the room. I will miss hearing his updates about his daughters, which he loved to deliver and I loved to hear. I know that he will forever remain in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.
To all of Mike’s family and to my sister Kimi,
We are so saddened by this great loss for all of you. We know the incredible things that my sister and parents have said about Mike and feel like we have known him for years and loved having him be a part of my sister’s life. Only wish that we had met in person and not in the background of phone calls so I could shake his hand and thank him for being such a wonderful person to my sister. My family and all of my church family have been lifting you all up in prayer since we heard the sad news and we will continue to do so that you can feel the Lord’s love and comfort surrounding you.

Dear Erin and Lauren,
I don’t know if I ever met either one of you, but your father was a fantastic person. You always smiled when he entered the room because he had that affect. He was always positive and always a joy to be around.
Kimi,
I am so sorry. I know you had a special love for Mike. I always enjoyed seeing the two of you. He will be missed.
Kimi,
My heart goes fully out to you and Mike’s children at this extremely difficult time. You have so very many people that love you here, and are just a phone call or text away. Reach out as you need to for anything, no matter how small. Mike was a wonderful person, and will be incredibly missed by all of us. I am so very, very sorry.
Much love,
Jules
Dear Erin and Lauren,
I am so deeply saddened at the loss of your father. Mike was the best of the best. So many great memories of being on the field and in the bleachers at Patuxent and traveling from place to place following all of you girls on the soccer field. He was your biggest fan and all the while being a fan of every player on the team and showing that enthusiasm. I can’t remember him not ever being there! He was loved and respected by so many. May you both, along with Kimberle, find comfort in all of the beautiful memories that you share. God Bless you all.

Sending my condolences to Mike’s family and everyone he knew. I went to South Carroll and we graduated together, and he was one of my best memories, always happy and kind, we would get into a little trouble for laughing in class, but those moments have always stuck with me! God got a great guy!! Mike was the epitome of everything that is good! I’m so sorry he is gone.
Still in shock over this. Mike was a good friend to many including myself. I remember the many chess games we played after school when there were no sports. Once I was pushed into a head coaching position once when the head coach and assistant coach quit and I knew nothing about soccer. Mike came to my rescue and taught me a lot with his vast knowledge of the sport. I could not have done it without his guidance. He will be missed by so many people. A great person taken way too soon.
We were shocked to hear the news of Mike’s passing. He always had a smile and was so excited about his retirement, his daughters, granddaughter, Kimie, and looking forward to the future. He will be missed by many but will remain in the hearts of all that were lucky enough to know him. Our deepest condolences to all.
Darin and I were so very sorry to hear this and offer our deepest condolences. We always thought Mike was a terrific person and we’re honored to have known him. We will always remember him in a tracksuit with a clipboard in his hand, giving nothing but support and encouragement to every girl on the Hornets and the Courage. A special man that adored his children and made the rest of us parents a little bit better because we were around him.
I worked with Mike at the GPO he was a really great person employee manager and I can’t believe this is still real, and he spoke highly of his, as he called them, his girls and how proud he was of their accomplishments. I am very sad that the world won’t have Mike’s great values, smile, and he was just a pretty cool guy. You girls hang in there and with the support of your husbands and caring for Mikes grandchildren keep his values alive with your actions. I just worked with Mike but I loved him and his loss brought tears of what a waste of us losing a wonderful person. My prayers are with you guys. Live your life and never let those babies not know about Grandad. I loved Mike.

Dear Lauren and Erin-
I am shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of your Dad. He and I had many talks over the OLSS basketball years and, later, at PHS fields. He loved you both and was very proud of you. He will be missed.

Call/reply back… sorry to hear of your loss.
I did not know Mike well. A few conversations….. I really liked him. Most of all, I feel bad for Kimi and their wonderful relationship that they will both miss. She is tough and will go on…. Just wish she didn’t have to 💕.
