November 23, 1929 – January 25, 2023
Thomas Allen Robertson, age 93, died of congestive heart failure on January 25 at his home in Prince Frederick, Maryland. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lauffer; daughters Megan (Thomas) Donahue and Sara Robertson, of St. Petersburg FL; granddaughters Catherine, Jennifer, and Elizabeth Donahue, also of St. Petersburg; and sister Cleo Robertson of Costa Rica. His sisters Betsy Robertson Dosh and Nancy Herendeen predeceased him. Tom was born in Pittsburgh PA in 1929 and spent much of his early life in Pass-A-Grille FL. He joined the Air Force in 1948 and graduated with honors from the U.S. Air Force Aircraft and Engine Technical School, then applied his technical skills to the maintenance of aircraft in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of South Florida and later was coordinator of the Energy Center at the University of Florida. In 1976 he moved to Washington DC, where he focused his work on information systems, energy and the environment. Tom loved to recount stories of his Air Force years and his years as a captain and sport fishing guide on the Atlantic seaboard and in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, and as a boatbuilder in Florida. He had a boundless curiosity and was a lifelong learner and avid reader. Donations in his memory may be made to Books for Africa. Per his wishes, there will be no service.
