Oma Carol Brooks
January 9, 1942 – January 21, 2023
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oma Carol Brooks of Deale, MD. Oma was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend and is best known as “Memaw” to her closest friends and family. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and friends after her long hard-fought battle with cancer ended on January 21, 2023, at 81 years of age.
Oma was born in Baltimore on January 9, 1942, to Eileen and William Collins. She was the oldest of 9 children.
She was a very beloved member of the Deale community for 58 years. Most will remember her from her 45 plus years serving food and drinks at Happy Harbor Restaurant. She was a simple woman who enjoyed the simple things in life: her family, her friends, her church, sitting on her front porch, a good nap, her pets, and a sweet treat. She was a caregiver at heart and loved by everyone she met.
She is survived by her daughter Beth Brooks of Maryland, her son Steve Brooks of Georgia, her grandchildren Kristen Brooks (MD), Courtney Brooks (FL), Jacob Brooks (GA), Shawn Brooks (GA), and her newest pleasure, her great-grandson, Isaac Simmons (MD). She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Friends and family are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10:00 at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church,5965 Deale Churchton Rd. Deale, MD 20751

My Deale mother and great lady. An anchor for the Happy Harbor captains and mates. Alway a smile. Often a quick wit to make you laugh. Undeniably, a welcoming and caring woman with a heart the size of Texas. Missed, but never forgotten. Imagining Henrietta greeting her and her knowing the grace of a well lived life. My condolences to her family and may they take solace in their memories of the gift that was Oma.
Oma was affectionately known as the cookie lady at Northern High school. We saw each other everyday as we both worked there. We spent every Wednesday playing bingo together at elks lodge. Had the pleasure of her smiling kindness every time. You sure will be missed. You and your sister Jr behave in the heavens. RIP dear one. Condolences to the family.
We are deeply saddened to hear of Oma’s passing and so very sorry for your loss. This beautiful new heavenly angel was a blessing here on earth to anyone who was privileged to call her your friend.
She will be sorely missed! Doug & Robin Howard🙏🏻
So sorry to learn of this. I have known Oma and family since 1948!! We had many good times throughout life. We were neighbors but more like Good Friends. Oma loved & treated My Family like her family!! Another Beautiful Angel received her wings today!! There were many people & loved ones waiting to greet her!! Always BE REMEMBERED WITH 💕 LOVE!!! Til we meet again!! Jo Ann Eskew.
Keep Ronnie, Jimmy & Karen under your Wings.
Condolences to Family & Many Friends.
My deepest sympathy to the Brooks/Collins families. I have known Oma since we were 15-16 years old. We shared so many wonderful memories over these 65 years and I loved her like a sister. May you find comfort in knowing she is with her loved ones who have passed before her and she and JR are together again. She missed her terribly and now they both have wings. She touched so many people in so many ways and I will call on my memories to reach again such a special friend.
There will never be another Oma. We ate at the Harbor every Sunday after church. Oma knew what we wanted and would come over and ask “any changes?” Then would get to work. I visited her a few times since she has been home and she was always happy to see me. I am sure she was welcomed in heaven by many but there are many here who will miss her. May her family and loved ones feel the power and support of prayers from friends. May the angels greet her and may she rest in peace.
It is with a sadden heart that I express my condolences to Beth and Steve and the Collins family. Many Many years ago Oma and I drove to Atlanta. I visited my daughter and Oma visited Steve. We really got to know each other besides seeing each other at Happy Harbor. She was a good friend and neighbor.
