Ruth Blanche Ridgley
September 15, 1931 – January 14, 2023
On Saturday January 14, 2023 Ruth B. Ridgley passed away peacefully in her home in Lothian, Maryland at the age of 91. Ruth was born on September 15, 1931 to Thomas and Ruth Vocase in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Ruth lived in Lawrence through grammar school and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950. After high school Ruth attended a technical school in Boston and later got a job with Raytheon. Soon after starting at Raytheon, Ruth met her husband Ottaway at an Army Dance in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. 3 weeks after meeting, Ruth and Ottaway came back to Davidsonville, Maryland where they were married on April 6, 1953. They went on to have three daughters and build the family home together in Lothian, Maryland. In 1978 Ruth started her own floral shop in the basement of the family home. After partnering with her three daughters in 1979, Ruth transitioned Springtime Florist to a brick-and-mortar shop in Cheverly, Maryland. She spent her career designing beautiful flower arrangements all over the DMV area. She retired from Springtime Florist in 1992 and left the business to her three daughters. After retirement, Ruth stayed home on the family farm to raise her grandchildren and travel with her husband. In her free time, she loved to paint, create stained glass pieces and tend to her many flower gardens.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband O.C. Ridgley Jr. Ruth is survived by her three daughters Dawn Morgan, Marsha and Chuck Wvill, Ginny and Carl Copsey. Four grandchildren- Robert Wyvill and Angela Stallings, Shawn Raynor and Tori Hunt, Mark and Jessica Wyvill, Dani and Casey Michael. 8 great grandchildren- Zoe and Ryan Gorka, Cameron Wyvill, Hunter and Ryder King, Sawyer and Rowan Wyvill, Charlee and Georgia Michael.
Her legacy is one that could never truly be put into words. Ruth and O.C. built a beautiful life together that revolved around their family. Ruth was fiercely loyal to the ones she loved and determination to get what she wanted was unmatched until her very last breath. The lessons she has left behind will live on among those of us who were lucky enough to know and love her. She is forever in our hearts until we meet again.

Aunt Ruth taught me a lot and she was a very strong woman she showed me love and a lot of kindness. I love her so much. I just wish I could have spent more time with the family. Love you Aunt Ruth and I will never forget you and Uncle Junior have a good time being together in heaven until we can meet again.
Love you all.
Aunty Ruthy was such a machriach of the family! She was wise and full of life. She loved her family so much!!! She enjoyed the finer things in life and shared her knowledge with her family! We are so very saddened by her passing and wish we we’re able to attend her services. She was a kind soul and will be sorely missed by her family. Rest in Peace sweet Aunty Ruthy. We loved you and sending our deepest condolences to the rest of the family.
I was saddened to hear of Aunt Ruth’s passing. My condolences to our Maryland family, and everyone who loved her. She was always kind and loving, and I have many fond memories of her. I will cherish the time we spent together in New Hampshire, Florida, and on the farm. I remember the things she taught me, and wise words she gave me when I needed to hear them. She was a good person, friend, and the sweetest Aunt a Nephew could ask for. I spoke with her before Uncle Ott’s passing, and I’m thankful for the love and kinds words we shared with each other that night. I will always remember her fondly, and with love.
