Robert Duncan Cheel, Jr.

Robert Duncan Cheel, Jr. (Bob), born April 21, 1938 in Patterson, New Jersey, died peacefully January 12, 2023 in Catonsville, MD at Brightview Senior Living and Retirement Community. He was the son of Robert Duncan Cheel, Sr. and Lucille Lusby Cheel, both deceased. Bob was also preceded in death by stepfathers Oscar Lusby and Karl Jund. He is survived by numerous cousins including his four first cousins: Maurice T. Lusby, Caroline L. Evans, Thomas F. Lusby and Charles H. Lusby.
Bob graduated from St. Paul’s School for Boys in Baltimore, MD in 1956 and from Washington College in Chestertown, MD with a degree in Education. He served in Germany in the United States Army and, while there and as time permitted, enjoyed sightseeing on his BMW motorcycle. Bob taught Middle School Science in the Baltimore area for years, was well loved by his students and maintained correspondence with many of them. After retiring from teaching he became a real estate agent in Baltimore.
Bob enjoyed collecting and selling antique firearms and powder horns and was completing an illustrated book on powder horns prior to his death. He also had extensive knowledge of Native American villages and artifacts throughout the Patuxent River basin. Bob always relished visits with his friends and relatives.

Didn’t know Bob, but I acquired some of his musical-instrument collection from his estate sale. He must have been a fascinating guy and a kindred spirit with a love of history, native cultures, archeology and music. Maybe we’ll meet again someday. RIP.
