Frederick E. “Fred” Carpenter
July 8, 1943 – May 9, 2022
Frederick E. “Fred” Carpenter, 78, of Deale passed away May 9, 2022. He was born July 8, 1943 in Washington, DC to Frederick Eugene and Alice Mildred (Owens) Carpenter. Fred grew up in SE DC and graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1961. He went onto to attend Prince George’s Community College and graduated with an Associate’s Degree. Fred was employed as a supervisor and computer specialist for the Department of State for 34 years, retiring in 1999. Fred’s pleasant personality and great wit was contagious to everyone he met. You were never quite sure what was going to come out of his mouth next!
In his younger years he was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed playing in men’s softball leagues, basketball, skiing, scuba diving, and was an avid Washington Capitals Hockey fan but his passion was fishing and building fishing rods!
Fred is survived by his sister, Lynn Draugelis of Deale and many close friends.

I love you Freddie and will miss you so much. Thank you for being like a second father to me growing up, no matter how much you picked on me and how you still kept up with it as I became an adult. Thank you for introducing me to hockey and taking me to all of those Caps games. Thank you for always giving me whatever I wanted or wanted to do at your house (play with Elliott, help cut the grass, just be a nuisance). Your heart was so huge. I’m so grateful for all of the many memories I have with you. I can see you waving to us from your house as we drive by on the boat. Imprint in my brain. I love you and hope you Rest In Peace.
