Mary Frances “Molly” Shelton
April 8, 1931 – May 2, 2022
Mary Frances (Molly) Shelton, 91 of Fort Washington, Maryland passed away on May 2,2022 at her home surrounded by loving members of her family.
She was born April 8, 1931 in Colon, Panama to Mary Francis (Toner) Coyne and James Philip Coyne.Β She was a graduate of St. Gertrude (St. Maryβs) High School in Laurel, Maryland. She married Hugh F. (Shelly) Shelton and would have celebrated their seventy-second anniversary this year.
Throughout her life Mary would find her home in Fort Meade, Maryland, Colorado, Georgia, Virginia, Washington, DC, and Germany (twice) as she traveled with her husband Hugh F. Shelton, a member of the United States Army. They would finally retire to her current residence in Fort Washington, Maryland.
Mary is survived by her children, Kathleen Ann Loeffler (David) of North Beach, Thomas Shelton of Fort Washington, James βJimβ Shelton (Elizabeth) of Alton, NH, Richard βRichβ Shelton (Carrie) of Falls Church, Esther Brickner of Falls Church, Joseph βJoeβ Shelton of Fort Washington and grandchildren Frankie Shelton (Rhonda), David Loeffler, Jr. (Jennifer Counts), Jarrett Loeffler (Angelique), Christopher Loeffler (Melanie), Nicholas Loeffler (Karen), Laurie Gray (Tyler), Jason Brickner, Carter Shelton, Olivia Shelton,Β great grandchildren Autumn Shelton, Alivia Shelton, Jarrett Loeffler, Jr., Jacqueline Loeffler, Alicia Loeffler Jack Loeffler, Connor Loeffler, Finnian Gray, Emerson Gray, Brady Redman, Erika OβConnor, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh F. Shelton, her son Frank Shelton, her granddaughter Amanda Brickner, and her brothers James, William, John, and sister Helen.
Maryβs first jobs were loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She was also a civilian Federal Government employee, an insurance clerk, an Avon saleswoman, a ladiesβ fashion store employee, and doctorβs office receptionist. Mary was a very active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies Auxiliary. She loved being with her family and lovingly gathered them at holidays and special occasions. Mary was a avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
